VFR Pilot Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I am ready to swing my vertical card compass but I can't find any info on which of the two yellow and green adjusting screws is for N-S and which is for E-W. Does any one know?

Blueadventures Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Thanks corvairkr thats just what I needed, cheers If you don't have a brass screw driver you can get a piece of 6mm aluminium rod and hammer one end flat on both sides and file shape to a screw driver end that way the compass does not swing as you adjust with a steel scew driver. 1
VFR Pilot Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 Thanks Blue, I got an el cheapo from Spruce it's just a flat piece of metal shaped a little like a screw driver, cheers
facthunter Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I've done a few swings on bigger stuff . Have you got something to align it with marked out on the ground and some compasses are "hemisphere" sensitive. Mostly cheaper ones I guess. Having ferrous objects around is error causing and have all normal electrics ON as you would in flight if you can.. The best stuff has a flux valve out on the wing further away from error causing effects. Nev
bstrachan Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 My A&P told me to make sure the vertical card compass was shock mounted as vibration will destroy them. I used some soft rubber washers to isolate the mounting bracket.... it's been in there for years, no problems. You will love the VCC, it is so much nicer than the old whisky compasses. 1
