DGL Fox Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 Hi Guys, Does anyone have for sale the standard 912 exhaust springs and standard clamps for the rotax in my Sportstar other than Bert Flood? David
Mick Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 The standard Sportstar exhaust does not use springs, so not sure what you are after?
DGL Fox Posted January 21, 2017 Author Posted January 21, 2017 Yes sorry, a friend of mine need the springs I was looking for new clamps actually so I thought I could see if I could find both... David
Mick Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 Is it the clamps that secure the manifold into the muffler that you are after? I think they are an Evektor part. I get all my Sportstar parts from Nelson Aeroplane Company in Victoria. Google will find their details. Harvey the Owner & Lame is very helpful.
Downunder Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 After breaking 2 Rotax springs in 30 hrs, I have replaced all of them with stainless springs fron jbm in the US. All still going strong after 350hrs....... 1
rotax618 Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I get rotax exhaust springs from England on ebay, just search for rotax exhaust springs in th go-cart section, they are very cheap compared to Flood, you can buy them by the dozen. 1
aro Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 just search for rotax exhaust springs in th go-cart section How do you know the right size?
DGL Fox Posted January 21, 2017 Author Posted January 21, 2017 Well the exhaust pipe is 30min diameter, so a clamp to suit that and the spring is your standard 66mm and 12.5 turns I believe. David
dsam Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 After breaking 2 Rotax springs in 30 hrs, I have replaced all of them with stainless springs fron jbm in the US.All still going strong after 350hrs....... I know a LAME that runs a bead of high temperature flexible silicone down each side of each Rotax spring to dampen vibration flexing. Voila! No more broken exhaust springs, regardless of type/source. 6
skippydiesel Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 High Temp Silicon between exhaust spring coils is standard Rotax procedure (don't forget safety wire )
facthunter Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Needed , particularly with the two strokes. Nev
Deskpilot Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Didn't know about these spring problems, so thanks guys for the advance warning and advice.
Blueadventures Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Didn't know about these spring problems, so thanks guys for the advance warning and advice. Hi. Run the bead and also push / squeeze it into between the spring coils. Regards Mike
facthunter Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 What the bead of silicone does is stop the harmonics in the springs. They are just a blur at certain revs otherwise and soon break. Nev 2
dsam Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Note: There is advice to warn against filling the spring with silicone as it interferes with air cooling of the spring - a good bead along the sides does nicely. The safety wire should not be tight, either. It should be just loose enough to allow normal flexing of the spring. The safety wire ensures a broken spring stays with the aircraft, not dropping out of the sky doing random damage on its way to earth.
