Admin Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Here are some pictures of the prototype 2 - on this one the wings were moved back slightly to give a better CoG and some slight mods done to the tail plus an oil temp control unit installed to cover a very wide operating temp range. Prototype 2 isn't painted as they are making very slight changes here and there to fine tune it all - this one also has better trims (elevator and aileron) but I can tell you what I saw has left a marked impression on me - when watching it fly and the look of it in the air made me make a comment to them that all she needs now is an exhaust system of a spitfire or F18 (or a taped sound of one playing on a loud speaker) - to me the Master looks like a combination of both a spitfire and an F18. Hope you like the pics!
facthunter Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 C of G. Ian, I like the look of the retract gear. Is a tail wheel version a possibility? Nev...
Admin Posted November 22, 2007 Author Posted November 22, 2007 Nev - I doubt a tail wheel version has been thought - you and your tail dragger I liked the look of how strong the undercarriage was hence why I specifically took a picture of it - although I didn't take a snap of the engine, the engine mount frame was made out of 1.5" pipe. All around I was very impressed with the strength of it all. When we went back to the factory, prototype 1 was sitting there without an elevator. They put it on without any bolts/screws etc i.e. just placed it on the brackets and told me to get up and lay over one of the elevators. I am 105kg and it didn't even budge not even with me wriggling around to get up and lay over it plus it took my complete weight bouncing on the end tip of the right elevator.
Guest pelorus32 Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Now Ian, to serious matters. As Equipment Reviewer I have decided that it will be necessary for me to test fly the Millennium Master prior to any further developments. Can you arrange that please?:big_grin::big_grin::big_grin::big_grin: :devil::devil::devil::devil: I've been doing my homework already - reading the Italian review from earlier this year. All ready to go, bag packed, camera ready, headset in hand, passport in pocket. Just leave the ticket for me to pick up at the airport please.;););) Your loyal reviewer. Mike
Admin Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 - Mike Unfortunately I wasn't even allowed to fly in it being a prototype instead the back seat was filled with sand bags which were changed around on every flight to simulate different weight and proportional people. I really can't wait for the Master to be fully devloped and certified - the amount of testing these guys are doing has really really impressed me - they are not happy to just put sand bags in the back but they wanted to move them around as well - piled them all on one side like a pax leaning all to one side to check the trims and steep turns etc. They have offered to bring Prototype 1 to Australia for natfly but it wouldn't be allowed to take a pax as the wings are a bit further forward so it doesn't have a good CoG plus there would be a lot of paperwork to get done just to be able to allow it to fly. Besides Mike, the forums are still after a person to volunteer to be the resident aircraft reviewer - as yet no one has volunteered
Flyer Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 - MikeBesides Mike, the forums are still after a person to volunteer to be the resident aircraft reviewer - as yet no one has volunteered  I'll volunteer my services right now...;););) Regards Phil
Admin Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 Flyer Perhaps you may like to PM me with your experience - number of hrs, aircraft flown etc. The forums would need a review done on an aircraft every month starting with the J160 as a benchmark. The reviews need to be completely and utterly independent and not bias towards any one aircraft to get an accurate review. We also need to develop a scoring system like width of cabin, performance in cruise, stall, turns etc, overall finish, options available, price etc etc etc - as I said we would need to have the J160 as a benchmark that would score 5 out of 10 for each area and then every other aircraft is reviewed +/- of that. So if you can take a test flight each month and write a comprehensive review on it for the forum members then that is exactly what we need - you even get a label of "Aircraft Reviewer" next to your name
Mathew Ker Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Ian, My experience is 9 hours (0.4 solo ;) ) in a Jabiru UL-D. I hope to get my licence around March/April 2008. Does this get me in the ballpark? :) Regarding the Millennium Master, congratulations on the work being done. Whilst I fear this snazzy aircraft will always be out of my league, I think it's exciting that we have the opportunity to fly such a wide variety of aircraft. Right now I'm really enjoying the Jabiru and I dream/plan/imagine the day when I'll be able to build/buy and fly my own flying machine. I wanted to say 'good luck' with the remainder of your working visit - but luck doesn't seem to be in order. What seems to be unfolding is the result of careful work and planning. So instead I'll sit back and enjoy the rest of your reports as you bring more information to hand. Regards, Mathew, Cairns
Flyer Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 FlyerPerhaps you may like to PM me with your experience - number of hrs, aircraft flown etc. you even get a label of "Aircraft Reviewer" next to your name  That'll teach me to open my big mouth......I'll go through my logbook and drag some figures for you. ;) Gotta love having a cool label to... Regards Phil
Ben Longden Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Well,if Mike (Pelorus 32) needs a professional photographer and video dude to thouroughly document the aircraft and make promo vids.., then look no further....:) Ben
Guest Fred Bear Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 These types of aircraft absolutely 110% crap on our Australian designs/builds
Guest brentc Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 c'mon Daren, that's a bit harsh! We need to support the Aussie mades. I believe you fly Jabs on the odd occasion????? I'm qualified, would put my hand up for impartial reviewer and would give it my best, but would struggle to get my hands on an aircraft every month.
Guest Fred Bear Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Brent, I am too partial on the Jabs mate I admit. Need some cash to play with (hopefully will have some shortly) and I will see what ventures are in the distance! Sometimes I do feel comfy in the Jabi though
Guest disperse Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I feel there is a vast array of aircraft available today. Some very technical and some that are so much not technical...... But when it comes to technical.....the Master certainly sets a new bench mark. Congratulations
Deskpilot Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 This aircraft is so advanced I was wondering where it fitted into the RAAus categories, then I read Mick Poole's article on the new op manual soon to be released (we hope). I guess you're being just a bit foresighted Ian. Now all we need is to win lotto. If you haven't seen it, the article is in November's mag.
Admin Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Here is some more photos of the Prototype No 2 doing some more testing - the problem now is that the entire region is now covered in snow so testing has halted for a little while however they have started on the 5 Beta planes which I will get one as soon as possible to put it through its user acceptance testing (assembly, manuals, Aust certification process etc) - I am desperately trying to get it for Narromine at Easter - it may not be allowed to fly then but at least it can be viewed
storchy neil Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 ian that looks a bit serious look out cause blue gazelle will get jelous:):)
BigPete Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Now....... Where do you put the machine guns?.......:big_grin: Awesome stuff. regards
Admin Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 Neil, the Gazelle is waiting to go to Ballarat for Decca so I don't think she will mind Pete, that's exactly what goes through my mind when I look at her - now I have to start on the process of getting her allowed to fly here - if only jet engines were allowed then we could have some fun
Guest Bendorn Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Ian, that is one serious looking machine. I'm impressed!!! Where do I sign???
bushpilot Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Hi Ian, Are they releasing any specs and performance target figures as yet? If not official, can you reveal any of the key numbers? Cheers, Chris
