Somewhere along the Bruce Hwy Qld, also was a good spot to land and got some fuel at a petrol station and some food etc., from memory - many, many years ago, Your Honour. 1

Head in the clouds Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I'd say it was a stunt for the camera, he could have easily taken off from the bitumen area in front of the shops without going onto the road - or, with those big bush wheels, from the service road or the gravel either side of the road 1 1

I agree with you Frank but the aircraft is over size that is too wide and has an exposed rotating sharp object in front, a hot rod needs a guard around fan to have no cover. The wide issue would need an escort but I'm with you lots of roads aren't busy and should be allowed. When I stopped a Nullabour road house I was told someone was in trouble for a road take off, also stopped at a roadhouse motel with strip on opposite side of road and had to cross thought about just taking off but did the right thing. 1
Bernie Knight Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 I've experienced the RFDS landing on outback roads and the Police stop traffic. I did notice in some areas signs indicating that the road was an airstrip - earning motorists to look out . I've got this outback fly experience on my Bucket List. Maybe an idea to start a Thread to identify some of the outback service stations with strip. - OzRunways have a add on purchase for the unlisted strips.. 1

Gnarly Gnu Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 This is fine, there are parts of Alaska where the roads are shared. There are signs telling cars to give way to aircraft, many people keep an aircraft at home and the local streets are the taxiway. 1 1
farri Posted February 5, 2017 Author Posted February 5, 2017 Some of the laws in this country don`t seem to make a lot of sense, if any. Originally, a friend of mine at Fishery Falls (NTH,QLD) had his strip on his private property, on the opposite side of the Bruce Highway from his house and the shed where he keeps his Drifter....He would fire the Drifter up and taxi straight across the road to the strip....Cops caught him a couple of times and gave him a warning. Apparently it`s legal to push the aircraft across the road but not to sit in it, with the engine running and taxi it across. Franco. 1

Vlad Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Nice thread Frank. Good to know what I might expect in Oz. I landed on Alaska Highway several times and traffic was no issue. Once kids stopped the car by me and asked if I need help. I told them yes, drive a mile this way and stop the traffic in 5 min till I take off. They drove away but traffic kept coming so I took off downwind. There are some stretches of the highway traffic free but you can't land there. They will come to scratch the itch... 4 1

Oops no weight left for the Pilot, This is crazy talk you dreamers LOL
