503 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Who is going and is worthy of a trip interstate
Guest Jacques_78 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I'll be there, always a good day out Wife and kids love it too. Worthy of a trip from interstate? Don't know, you'll have to ask the interstate guys, I'm local
dsam Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 RA-Aus was offering members (who registered for one) a free Trade Day ticket to Avalon, to be sent via e-mail after Feb. 14th. I haven't received mine yet... has anyone else got theirs?
red750 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Depends what your interests are, but there's always something new to see. This page gives a brief summary of attractions over the years, and the flick.com link in my signature has photos from the last 5 airshows. Copy it and paste in your browser. I'm hoping to get there to take more photos, it may be my last show as I don't get around so well these days.
dsam Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 RA-Aus have now emailed my complimentary Avalon trade-day ticket today... it will be my first time to attend during trade days, and not general public days. I'm going to enjoy the extra elbow-room amongst the exhibits!

craigL Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I'll be there and travelling from Tassie for it. Haven't been to an Avalon show before, really looking forward to it - there will be lots of GA and Sport aircraft on display. Don't have time for the trade days though.
MarkyMarkOZ Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I will be there,.. with bells on! Looking forward to it and am flying in Friday morning on commercial from Brisbane.
red750 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Photos posted on facebook show an Antonov An-124 Ruslan at Avalon. No mention if it will be there at the weekend. 1 1
red750 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I'll be there on Sunday. Easy to spot - I'll have one of these (not letting arthritis stop me): and this nametag: 2 1

Guest FlyingPhil Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I was going to make Avalon this year and I was going to ride down on my motorbike and make a little holiday out of it. But a new job position came up and I thought oh well better give it the heave ho till 2019 and start my new gig. But not all was lost. I was doing a lesson at Boonah (south of RAAF Amberley) on Tuesday the 28th and saw one of the new tankers and 2 x F18's on climb out heading south to Avalon. So technically I got to see a bit of it !! Winning!!
planedriver Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I'll be there on Sunday. Easy to spot - I'll have one of these (not letting arthritis stop me): and this nametag: That looks pretty good to me mate, even if you'd prefer something different! Good braking system and black-box easy to find if things don't go as planned. I am well aware of the drawbacks caused by a few extra Birthdays, but at least you'll be there, and I won't. Have great day which I'm sure you will, and don't forget to post a few piccies. Kind Rgds Planey
Guest FlyingPhil Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Planey, mate that's not the black box, its the ballistic parachute. Minor oversight, anyone could have done it.
planedriver Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Just so long as he doesn't have to use it at ground level to jump the que to get a sanger sandwich.
red750 Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Well. Just back from the air show. Pretty good, but a few disappointments. The F35 apparently flew yesterday, and today we were supposed to see it depart back to Amberley today. Although they are "ours", they are still under US control until pilot training is finished. All flights have to be approved by the US and they only approved the repositioning flight for today. However, thunderstorms were forecast for the Amberley area, and these planes haven't had their lightning protection gear installed yet. Ironic that the Lightning (II) was grounded by lightning. I went equipped as mentioned in #10, but no-one identified themself to me. I went to Bernie Knights display, but apparently he was there yesterday. The only guy I spoke to was one I have known for 3 years, a Drifter pilot from Lethbridge. Don't think I'll go again. Too many not interested in aviation - spend all day wandering around feeding their face or standing in front of you when you are trying to take a photo. Now I've got to edit my photos. Will upload soon. 1
planedriver Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Next time wear a sandwich board stating- "PLEASE STAND WELL CLEAR. OFFICIAL REC FLYING PHOTOGRAPHER IN ACTION" Inconsiderate sods! Look forward to seeing the edited photo's Thank you. Planey
red750 Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Well here's a few to whet your appetite, more to come. 6 1
pmccarthy Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Just the one rag and tube for historical interest?
red750 Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Just the one rag and tube for historical interest? To be honest, I think it's the only one I saw. I walked further than I have walked since the last Avalon, and cannot recall seeing another rag & tube. Many more photos to edit, many not usable, (blurred, hats or heads in the way, etc.), 1
Guest FlyingPhil Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Nice Red. Shame it wasnt that great a weekend for you. The great unwashed masses do get in the way a bit eh!?!
red750 Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 OK. Here are the remaining photos from camera 1. Another still to go. 8
