farri Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Reminded me of a guy ( passed away quit a few years ago ) way back in the mid eighties...He had a WB Drifter on floats and being a keen fisherman decided to fly to a reef, out from Tully Heads...Going out was ok but by the time he turned around to head back a haze had set in and he couldn`t see the mainland...About half way back, he spotted a prawn trawler, landed close to it and asked for direction to Tully Heads. On another occasion, he`d put the Drifter on wheels, gone flying and was almost back to Tully Heads (had a house there) when he ran out of fuel, nothing but the Tully river and mangroves below him, fortunately, it was low tide so he put it down in the river, in a couple of feet of water, a guy in tinny saw him come down and picked him up...No injury to the pilot or Drifter...Pilot went back with his boat and retrieved the Drifter... Both true stories. Frank 2
