jamdfingr Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Hi guys, I am hoping to make my way up there from Mackay to come and say hello but am wondering if this will still go ahead given the recent rains etc. Are you guys ok up there since the cyclone?
bull Posted April 3, 2017 Author Posted April 3, 2017 Hi guys,I am hoping to make my way up there from Mackay to come and say hello but am wondering if this will still go ahead given the recent rains etc. Are you guys ok up there since the cyclone? G,day yes Lakeside is still on and we have over 40 aircraft attending so far, and the more the merrier so you are most welcome and the strip is bitumen so no problems with the rain it will be camping under the wing so bring a tent or sleeping bag to sleep in the hanger etc. A vehicle will be available for trips to the servo for fuel and snacks etc {my 4x4] ok, hope to see you there and any one else whos interested please do as you are most welcome.cheers Scott 1
bull Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 Scott Duncan Evans · Just now Just an update and info for lakeside easter flyin, runway directions are 04 and 22 single bitumen runway , and the preffered landing direction is on 22 with departures on 04, 22 is uphill slightly and downhill on 04, please use standard ctaf radio procedures with left hand circuits. aircraft parking and camping will be on southern side of strip in front of the four big hangers, please take note of all marshalling advice and directions thanks, strip has no numbers or piano keys marked, just plain bitumen. Slightly displaced threshold on 22 due to strip repair work please land a little long to avoid small piles of gravel before start of bitumen at start of 22 Please forgive me for grammer and spelling as not my best trait lol,,aircraft are welcome any time before easter if required from thursday onwards . As stated before a vehicle [ my 4x4] will be available for servo runs and if anyone wants to hire a car from Proserpine airport lifts can be arranged ,so you can visit Airlie beach and the Whitsunday islands we are still here and just as beautiful as always [just a bit bare and a short back and sides for a lot of trees] they will grow back\] So am looking forward to seeing you all there then,, ps. This is my first time ever at having to organise anything like this ,so bare with me if i,ve forgotten or left anything out Cheers Scott.......Several owner/pilots live either on the field itself or close by. The area has several close power lines and some noise-sensitive rural neighbors, so keep both in mind if attending for the first time. Even with a slight tailwind it is preferred by some to always land from the east, although landing from the West is possible but generally downhill all the way. The runway is long however. No charges for landing or camping and sat dinner and breakfast and coffee and tea will be supplied , and a donation tin will be set up to help with costs .strip is prone to south easterly cross winds . http://airportnavfinder.com/airport/YLAK/ See More LikeShow more reactions Comment

Blueadventures Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Hi Wayne Good to catchup. Was a great weekend at lakeside Airpark and the breaky on the sand. Thanks to Gary P for allowing the gathering and Scott for organising. Some photos of the flight with you along. Cheers Mike 2 1
WayneL Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 A few more photos of aircraft at lakeside on the weekend. Also included some photos of the devastation cyclone Debbie did at Shute Harbour with regard to yachts that were washed ashore. I found it really hard to see these beautiful boats lying there...And I don't own any of them. I counted at least 3 yachts lying high and dry deep in the mangroves at the northern end of Shute inlet ...Do not know how they will get them out other than a big heli lift! From the air the Whitsunday landscape looks like the opposite of a drought. The trees areas looked brown and the fields were green, in a drought the trees are green (mostly) and the fields are brown. Blueadventures Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Great Pics, bit too far for me to come from SA, but never know!! Your always welcome up this way. Lakeside welcomes all pilots only asked to apply airmanship and always correct left hand circuits with no straight ins. Same from me; I would like to get to SA one day. Cheers Mike 2
Blueadventures Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Great weekend and attached is a short video of the aircraft that attended made while flying with Wayne L another forum member. Cheers Mike 2
