Hey guys,

I know what a VFR approach point is, but can someone tell me what the use and difference is between a tracking point, check point, and enroute reporting point? Maybe these symbols are for IFR flights? Haven't come across the meaning of these in my training and study.

Hey Rich, this is where you hit the AIP and see whet the regs say. In a nutshell though, if you are in the vicinity of a VFR Approach point or an Enroute Reporting point (compulsory), over the area frequency, you report your position, height and intentions.

In my area there is a VFR Approach point called Dayboro, so the call over the area frequency would be similar to this: "Dayboro traffic, your callsign, 10 miles west of Dayboro 3500, tracking 060, Dayboro". If there is other traffic in the area, you will probably hear their broadcasts as well.

Cheers,

Tony
