I will start doing the rear frames this weekend. We are also going to strap the rear frames..the corner pieces are really weak. I will put it on the blog when I get to it

It wont add any weight maybe 100 grams if that but will really strengthen the whole framing up

Mark , when you say premade, do you use it straight out of the bottle? I am paying $180+ for 1US gal of Alodine but then dilute it 3 to 1 with distilled water, giving me about 15lts. of mixWhat is the brand name of the mag wheel cleaner? is it the same as Alumiprep 33?

Correction, the rate to dilute Alodine ( for dipping ) is 2 to 1.

I use 3 to 1 for the Alumiprep 33

actually thats a good idea Steve..my rims get corrosion on them

Everyone does. Just quicker on the beach. How would it go on the engine castings?, they always get dull quickly at the beach too.

?

Two things Hank.

All your deburring has to be done before putting on the Alodine.

And to do large sheets Tom Cadet uses a frame knocked up out of 4x2 framing timber and lays a sheet of plastic in the frame on top of a bench to form a large shallow pond. Take care not to pierce the sheet with the corners of your sheets (2 people).

I think I will set up a rinse bath as well and recycle the rinse water until it gets to contaminated. I'm on tank water so it is a limited supply and I can also control the contamination.

I will make up a long skinny frame and line it to do the longerons and the rear trailing edges of the wing. Was going to do the spar but not real keen on the acid there as I couldnt garantee washing it completely out so will Jiff it and etch prime it

Well the house is 90% finished and we have moved out of the shed which has meant that I have been able to start setting up the workshop so I can start the Savannah build.

Slowly unpacking all my tools and stuff.

Setup my office and mancave which I have called the AV8R Bar.

I have decided to Alodine all my parts, so I sorting out some tubs for the process. I have all the parts up to 1200mm long sorted but am just working out how to do the sheets as they wont fit in the tubs I have bought.

I have also decided to do a test fit of all the components for each assembly. I have started with the tail feathers. This enables me to ensure I have all the parts, and also allow me to get the assembly process in my head before I start the true assembly after the de-burring, Aldine and etch primer has been completed.

I have found out already if you get one piece wrong you wont have everything line up correctly.

I might also try to take plenty of photos to make a log for future builders.

Thanks Hank, when do you start your build? Would be good to have someone building the same time.

I have finished my shed, received Council's Code of Compliance Certificate last month and have been setting up benches tools, etc. Lately, I have been sorting parts into groups and I would like to start putting the fin together in a week or so.

I will try to do a bit here and there, whenever I get time after work.

Had to rivet one frame together to feel like I had achieved something for all the effort.

Did you Alodine the rivets too?

Did you have a reason for riveting through the corner frames into the thin material of the wall frame? I would suggest putting the rivets through in the opposite direction, pulling against the holes in the heavier material always.
