microman Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Looks pretty straightforward to me - so long as you get the approach right - I wish some of the strips we get to land on were as big and flat as that one! 1
facthunter Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Yes, the strip's pretty adequate. Can't see why you would have to approach so low unless you thought it was fun. Nev
Head in the clouds Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 The low approach angle seems a bit nuts to me, Islanders are draggy as hell in landing configuration so can make very steep approaches to good benefit in that type of terrain. Apart from which the pilot had no view of the strip prior to the threshold so couldn't have been able to make his own inspection of it to be sure it was clear ... 3
facthunter Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Fixed gear in the Islander. Draggy if one engine only going. Nev
facthunter Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 I recall a tower person at Darwin watching an Islander depart for Moresby and he said ," XYZ, Your undercarriage has failed to retract' and the pilot said "Tower, this aircraft has fixed undercarriage" and the tower person not getting it yet said "Are you returning for landing". (Must have been a bad night.) embarrassing what? Nev 2
