Plenty of people ride, drive, fly without a thought to it. What about all the guys in Dandenong (pick your suburb) running around with big V8's with 1000 Holleys on them.

 

I have found in aviation that more people care about it than other mediums, probably due to all the ever ongoing high costs surrounding flying otherwise makes it more noticeable.
