Just a quick intro, I'm Carlos from Channel 31 "The Flying Show", Thought I'd get an intro going in order to get rid of that annoying reminder at the bottom left of the screen. Anyway, happy to hear from anyone with a worthwhile TV story for us to cover (I personally think all aviation stories are worthwhile!!). We unfortunately have some amazing stuff that we are not allowed to disclose or show on TV which is a real shame. I enjoy all the valuable info that gets spread around in these forums, so well done to all!!!

Regards

Thanks Guys for the great support. At the moment it looks as though Channel 31 will be closing shop by end of June, however, we've had a bit of interest to air the show on Foxtel and last week channel 9 Gem agreed to see a synopsis and a pilot of the show, the beauty of these channels is that the show will go to air all over Australia which is good given we have received numerous requests from various people wanting to see the show specially in Queensland and NSW. We have several stories that we cannot show unfortunately, two of my favorites are one where an older chap has a large parcel of land where WW2 spitfire training used to take place and after a relatively minor accident, the plane was left on site buried, we went over there and found it with a metal detector although the land owner believes they took most (if not all) the major parts, but we cannot disclose the location or the person. The other one is where someone's great aunt has several original spitfire plans that were released to the workers when the assembly line closed down in England, again we cannot get to the person even though I've seen the prints (in photo form) for fear of having to return them even though they were told at the time to take them.

Neil, it's great to hear from you, I haven't forgotten that you have a Savannah that i'd like to see, and "road test", I recently contacted Reg Brost to get a story but it seems he is or will no longer be the Savannah rep. Any news on that?

Anyway, if anyone has a story of interest, please let me know although we've had a few offers to attend some rare and beautiful aircraft releases in England and USA from enthusiasts that watch our show on catch up TV (I think) I would like to cover more stories here in OZ first.

I hope 9 Gem picks it up. Free to air is better. Many folks don't have Foxtel.

Hi Carlos,

Correct - Reg is looking to sell the Savannah dealership (and, I believe, retire...), but he is still waiting for a suitable buyer, as he wants it to go to an enthusiast who will continue it in the same vein...

Cheers,

Neil

Yeah Ben, Channel 31 is a community based channel and unfortunately will be closing shop at the end of June. Like you we've had great enthusiasm from interstate viewers and a big push for the show to go interstate. The folk in SA have contacted their TV networks in numbers to get them to show it there and with success our TV show will now be shown in Adelaide. We've had a bit of interest from channel 9 gem and Foxtel discovery channel, the beauty of these stations is the ability to have the show shown nationally, so fingers crossed!!. Incredibly enough our largest viewing audience is USA closely followed by Brazil. Most people like the fact the the show's format is simple un-edited, non-scripted etc. If we are to be picked up by a larger TV station we might have to come up with greater productions with a different format. We'll see what happens and will keep you all posted.

Yeah. Neil, thanks to your Savannah (which I closely inspected at Sunbury) I have now bought the kit and am frantically trying to complete the construction of my Hangar at home so I can get it delivered. I will be in touch with you to do a bit of a story pending on what direction we take with the TV show.

regards

Hi Carlos,

How about some shows on local manufacturers like AAK at Taree. Lots going on and might get the word out to buyers overseas.

Same with Jabiru and Protected etc.celebrate the locals.

Just a thought.

Keep up the great work

Hi Carlos,

I see your association with Ch31 has ended, and the link to your shows has been removed. Any word on whether you might pop up somewhere else and when?

Hi again guys, The story thus far...Channel 31 has been given an extension till December 31st this year, they got the news on the 30th of June and immediately informed us to get new stories etc. to get us through till the end of the year, in the meantime they are running repeats. We have embarked on getting new stories as we speak hence the reason for not being able to get onto this forum for any late news. Channel 31 insists on placing us against the news on the major channels because our show rates very very well and it's the best competition channel 31 has against the high rating major channels for that time slot. This means that we lose a lot of our audience because people get home late etc.. and the repeats are deliberately run at odd times in order to make our audience see the show at 6pm Wednesdays. (It's all politics). The show is now shown in Adelaide (channel 44) and will soon be shown in NSW and Queensland as we have had a lot of requests from people there. We missed out on oshkhosh this year as we thought C31 would close in June, we were also planning a trip to England as we were invited to the release of the Bulldog gyrocopter which surprised us as we had no idea they even knew about us! (what a beautiful plane!!) but we prefer to cover stories here in OZ first and yes we have considered AAK at Taree as I was looking at buying a hornet and got a savannah instead (thanks Neil of sunbury) but we will get there and hopefully we will cover Ole's creation!! We'll try and keep you upto date on events as they happen, if you know of someone or have any interesting stories, please let us know, many thanks, Carlos, Ethan and Kieran - "The Flying Show" PS : Red 750 you sound interesting, you fly? have you got a spitfire in the barn?

For some reason, we cannot get C31 (TV044) - no signal. It's of one the few free-to-air channels that Foxtel doesn't retransmit. I watched your shows on the C31 website, and saw up until the Avalon episode but now they have been removed. I used to fly up until 30 years ago, but family, finance and health matters put an end to that in 1986. Sorry, no spitfires.

Carlos do you do combined taping of the show also for use as advertising material?

the advertising issue with channel 31 is a delicate one. We need to be subtle but yes, we can and have promoted aviation products, certain aircraft etc. We've just had news that channel 31 are now continuing to 2018 and we've been asked to maintain production so the foxtel project "MAY" be on hold (not sure). One thing is certain, we will be going nationally through channel 31 and we're hoping to do some serious travelling to cover overseas events etc. so keep watching!!

I did mean for them to be seperate, not using the show per say as advertising, but using the production moment to kill 2 birds with one stone.
