Has anyone had any success with an different muffler for the Rotax? I'm posting for a fellow forum member and Texas Savannah S builder Jim Madison. He is looking for something that will fit the 912 and give it a bit more "rumble." Kyle, did you ever finish your experiment with a different muffler? Thanks all.

Well as a matter of fact....it has just been sitting waiting for me to get my act together with the bottom cowl mold. I finally got it to the guy next door here at work and am waiting for him to shoot some rovings into it. This will be then cut and shut so it can be fitted and flown. The system is all done although I am making a proper tube bender to make new engine pipes because the ones I made with the pipe bender look crappy and a bit bulgded. But bsically you need to cut the fence off at the bottom of the original cowl and then it it back on further forward as the rotax muffler hangs down a bit more and of course is in a little different spot.

There is a new Sav owner at my airfield he has a 912IS fitted and it uses a std rotax muffler BUT the welded ends on the muffler outputs are different to allow a angled entry this means you can keep the std size Rotax muffler and not have to fit a extra piece in it

like I had to do. I took a couple of pictures of Lee's 912IS muffler install when I saw it.

So if you were going to spend the bucks you would order a 912IS muffler and pipe setup to suit the Sav and you will then need to modify your cowl

The Toucan just bolts straight on, but may require a bit of cowl surgery
