onetrack Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 ...the way that numbers of American and Chinese are spending billions on opening new factories to produce lithium batteries as we know them now, then the presumption is their own experts also don't believe there's anything new 'just around the corner' as is oft reported ... These factories may be getting built to produce current technology Lithium batteries - but they will be designed so they can be easily modified to produce new battery technology, if required. In addition, researchers and developers look to just what is involved with new technology, and whether it can be produced in current, operating factories, without massive modifications to those factories. If a new design or new technology requires additional billions in new factories, then it quite often won't get off the ground (literally), due to those additional cost burdens - unless the gains are so huge, that the investment in new facilities can be justified.
