Hi all,

I know I bought 3/32", 1/8" and 5/32" heads from Aircraft Spruce a few years ago, but can't find the 1/8" one now.

Despite it only being US $8.50 from Aircraft Spruce, the postage is up around US $45 and I don't need anything else at the moment, so I'm a bit reluctant to buy one.

Tried about a dozen hardware & metalworking shops around Australia without success. Even Ebay has let me down.

If anyone has one and prepared to lend it out, I'm more than happy to pay return postage and guarantee to take good care of it. Only need it for the two cabin sides.

It looks like this 12-02326s.jpg

or possibly this

Either would do. If you can help, or if you know an Australian supplier who won't charge the earth, please PM me.

Thanks!

Cheers, Marty

Marty, perhaps you're using the wrong terminology. "Head" is not the common terminology, it's more regularly called a "bucking bar".

I found Hawker Richardson listing the 1/8" bucking bar, but of course, whether they are currently holding it in stock - or selling it individually, rather than in a kit - you would need to contact them to find out.

Try skyshop.com.au they are on Qld Sunshine Coast and are also Aircraft Spruce Australia.

Hi Derek,

I tried calling them yesterday on both their 1300 number and the QLD one. Both numbers gave me a "Check the number and try again" message.

Plus their website is a dog's breakfast and the Aircraft Spruce section, which had these rivet thingy's, is in PDF format and cannot be easily ordered. I really didn't like their setup.

Anyhow as I replied to Nick, I've ordered one from Henchman, so problem solved.

You will find your old one the day your new one arrives...074_stirrer.gif.5dad7b21c959cf11ea13e4267b2e9bc0.gif

Actually now that I've paid for the new one, the old one can turn up immediately...

I wish I knew about Henchman when I built my aircraft. I bought a 5/32 rivet snap fitting from Spruce for $6.25 plus $59.00 freight as the only local supplier I could find wanted $65.00. In the end I may as well have bought it locally.

You blokes are doing it wrong when shipping small items from the U.S.

USPS rorts us Aussies, big time, when it comes to postage. USPS is an organisation with horrendous internal operating costs, many of them "legacy" costs.

The only postal agency worse than USPS is Canada Post, who specialise in outrageous rorts such as adding a massive fuel surcharge, to your already-steep, postal charges.

The way to go for shipping of smaller parts and tool requirements from the U.S., is to go to the Australia Post site, and open a ShopMate account.

The AP ShopMate setup is a trans-shipping arrangement set up by AP within the U.S.

ShopMate operate from a business address in Portland, Oregon. You organise with the seller, to send the item to this address.

AP give you a ShopMate numerical code that prefixes your name, along with the ShopMate address in OR.

The seller merely addresses your parcel to the ShopMate address you have given them, and AP then take over.

Once your item arrives at the ShopMate address, AP send you an account for on-sending the item to your home or registered address. This merely entails filling out an online form and paying the AP charge.

The shipping rates from Oregon are a fixed charge of AUD$22.95 per parcel, for up to 500g initially. Any weight over 500g incurs an additional AUD$4.95 per 500g charge.

So, a 1.0kg parcel costs AUD$27.90, 1.5kg costs AUD$32.85, 2.0kg costs AUD$37.80, and so on.

The ShopMate parcel maximum size and weight limits are 200cm in total dimensions, (L x W x H) and 22kgs in weight

ShopMate is a good setup for when a seller refuses to ship overseas (which is common), and for when a seller offers free shipping within the continental U.S.

The last arrangement means you are only up for ShopMate trans-shipping charges, making a very sizeable cost saving, as compared to shipping direct with USPS.

You can also arrange to have multiple items shipped to ShopMate from anywhere in the U.S., and then arrange to have them repacked into one AP shipment.

There is a time limit on holding or waiting for the multiple items to arrive. It's not an unreasonable limit.

I've used ShopMate for a couple of years, and trans-shipped probably a couple of dozen items from the U.S. (mostly parts), with no hassles.

Of course, the downside is the shipping time delay in the double-handling - but nothing from the U.S. arrives here in record time, anyway - unless you ship directly by express air, at horrendous cost.

We have a similar operation in NZ called YouShop - run by NZ Post - works real well. As Onetrack says, many US sellers wont ship outside the US, or have free shipping inside the US - both situations are covered by YouShop who have 2 depots in the US - so you simply instruct the seller to ship to the YouShop address. They then contact you to advise the shipping cost to NZ, you pay by credit card, and it arrives typically a week or so later.
