fly_tornado Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 (CNN)Pitcher Roy Halladay, who won two Cy Young awards and more than 200 major league baseball games during a stellar career, died Tuesday in a plane crash off the Florida coast, authorities said. Halladay, 40, was the only person on the two-seater plane that crashed just off Holiday, on Florida's Gulf coast north of the Tampa Bay area, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said. The single-engine plane, an Icon A5, crashed in very shallow water and was found upside down. According to the Pasco County Sheriff's office, a 911 call came in at 12:06 p.m. ET saying that a small plane had crashed. There were no distress calls, the sheriff's office said. fly_tornado Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 Icon must have deleted it, basically Roy was going on about how great the Icon was and his wife wasn't so keen until she flew in the plane.
farri Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Sorry Guys, Typing error in my above post, I meant "That video Is Unavailable " 1
aj_richo Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Here is a video link of the aircraft prior to the accident and just after - taken by boaties nearby Video shows Roy Halladay’s final moments before plane crash 1

geoffreywh Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 The "ad blocker " advert precludes reading!
Birdseye Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 In defence of the aircraft, this and the previous accident appear unrelated to the aircraft itself, more likely the way it was being operated. As to the price hike? No defence for that. 1
alf jessup Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 The Icon A5 flew perfectly fine right up until the pilot destroyed it and himself in the process Another hey watch this accident by the looks of the video 2 1
Happyflyer Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Watching their promo videos, plenty of low flying, lots of steep turns, emphasis of stall/spin resistance, ballistic chute. What could possibly go wrong?
alf jessup Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Watching their promo videos, plenty of low flying, lots of steep turns, emphasis of stall/spin resistance, ballistic chute. What could possibly go wrong? Not much can go wrong until you put a human in it, then it can go pear shaped as we have seen Yes not a good promo showing and encouraging low level manoeuvres 1
poteroo Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Another self-taught,alpha male validates Darwinian theory! It's more than cheeky for the company to now blame the FAA for not ensuring there is 'adequate low level training' for pilots. They were happy to accept all the interest and probably sales, from all the LL vids that have been posted in recent times. IMHO, they should now "man up" and recommend pilots don't exceed their capabilities and get some proper instruction in LL if they intend to do it. A very irresponsible response! AFAIK, the US regulations don't have a lower limit over unpopulated areas, which is different to Australia, (500ft agl). However, located in their regs is the same section as in CASR 61, ie, that a pilot should ensure that they are competent to undertake any form of flying in the aircraft they have chosen to use. So, in the US, despite there being no lower height limit, and no formal LL rating, (although there is an ag rating, but only for CPLs and above), a pilot is in breach of the regs if they fly a manoeuvre in which they lack competency. Only the survivors will be prosecuted! 1
onetrack Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 As soon as I see, "the aircraft was being flown aggressively", I then think I have a fairly good pointer, as to where the crash reasons originated. 1 2
BLA82 Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 I can’t get over the fact that not one of those muppets put down their phone and jumped in. Who knows he might have just been unconscious and trapped(not likely but possible). 6 1 1
Phil Perry Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I can’t get over the fact that not one of those muppets put down their phone and jumped in. Who knows he might have just been unconscious and trapped(not likely but possible). DON'T BE DAFT. . . I read a report of a person stuck in quicksand near to Mont Saint Michel, France. Several people (estimated at around seven, due to the social media movies . . ) just stood there and filmed the person in difficulty with their mobile phones and NOT ONE OF THEM rang and alerted the rescue services.. . . This happened around six years back by the way. .. still horrendous. . . the victim drowned.

Phil Perry Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 did you read this in the same newspaper that told you brexit was going to be a huge win and unite England in triumph from leaving the largest single trading partner? 'Fraid not Mate. The term 'Brexit' had not been invented six years ago so there was no mention of it in the newspapers then. And you are right of course, Who would want to leave a totally corrupt sinking ship which accounts for a whopping 12 percent of World trade. . .. That would be just Silly. . . 1 1 1
fly_tornado Posted November 16, 2017 Author Posted November 16, 2017 the anti-EU sentiment has been brewing for 30+ years, Brexit will turn England into New Zealand Phil I saw this on Ebay, selling a $2000 spot for $5000

Phil Perry Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 thanks for that P Perrynever knew about the corrupt EU (googable) ........... where there's money there's always someone trying to skim the top Looks well that their own Auditors have refused to sign off the accounts for 19 years. . . ANYWAY GUYS. . .THIS THREAD IS ABOUT THE ICON A5. Not bloody EU politics.
onetrack Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 The final report on this crash is pretty revealing. Nothing wrong with the aircraft or its systems - the fault was 100% with the pilot. The autopsy found he was so full of a cocktail of drugs he shouldn't have been driving a car, let alone flying an aircraft. Sadly, the misuse of drugs in the sporting arena appears to be a constant, ongoing problem. Too many people can't handle the enormous pressures to perform, and fall into the trap of resorting to drugs, both legal and illegal. Roy Halladay Autopsy Findings Catch Industry by Surprise Another surprise was that fluid ingestion into his lungs was a factor in his death - essentially meaning, that if people nearby had made an effort to drag him from the water promptly, there was a chance - albeit a low chance - that he might have survived, despite broken bones and internal injuries. 1

Most people out there would act the same way, just observe, it's a form of shock, oh what do I do scenario?. Takes a particular kind of person to risk their own lives jumping into the unknown to rescue someone, the bystanders cannot be in anyway help responsible. I've been a part of an EMS team for years, it's no picnic it's very confronting! The pilot should not have been there in the first place, his family now suffer the consequences of his irresponsible actions, I feel for them. 2
BLA82 Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Reading my first post about how he could have still been alive and now reading the autopsy......maybe the person who filmed the incident might feel a little guilty?
onetrack Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 maybe the person who filmed the incident might feel a little guilty? There's always plenty of bystanders at crashes who are just happy to gawk and video, and let others risk their necks trying to save victims. 2
