information on camera

When i arrived here over 20 years ago from Ireland i placed an Ad looking for an old plate camera that i just wanted to use as a prop.I got a phone call from an old lady who was living at Harris Park Sydney she was within walking distance from the station and it was either High Street or Station Street. She had a camera which was just a basic old Kodak No.3 folding pocket camera.As i could not find what i was looking for i decided to purchase the camera from her.

 

As i was walking out the door she said to me i better tell you something about that camera. She said it was her husbands camera and he was killed in a plane crash i think from memory it was going to or coming back from Darwin?

 

Her husbands mate was Charles Kingsford Smith and she said the camera i had was used to take a lot of early photos of Kingsford Smith.

 

So i am trying to get some information. Does anyone know who the person who was killed and when ? Anybody may have known the lady ? Any photos of this camera with people?
