old man emu Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 This guide will assist in the deciphering of markings on the heads of bolts, and on the flats of washers. The markings are used to identify the grade of bolt, and the manufacturer. The information is probably not essential for day-to-day work, but you never know when it might prove its worth. onetrack Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 A very good and quite comprehensive fastener guide. However, it's still only a fairly basic guide, with only a modest list of fastener manufacturers. Major construction manufacturers such as Caterpillar, John Deere, IH-Case, etc, etc - and even Unbrako, the worlds greatest, specialist, high tensile fastener manufacturer - have been left off the list. Many of these construction equipment giants, and specialist fastener manufacturers, produce vastly larger quantities of fasteners than many of the listed, "dedicated" fastener manufacturers. One site I have found to be very useful and informative, is Bolt Science. This site deals with all aspects of joining and bolting, torquing, failures, and dozens of other problem issues related to fasteners. The section of the top menu entitled "bolting info", opens a new page with several dozen articles under numerous headings, all providing enlightening information as regards fasteners.
