The Chinese are exceptionally shrewd business people. Everywhere you go, in every country outside China, you'll find a large proportion of Chinese are business owners.

They're clever operators, and they always ensure they get a good deal. In fact, they have a tendency to "screw you to the wall", if you're dealing with them.

If they find ways to manipulate the local laws and regulations to their great benefit, they'll do so in a flash. They also have scant regard for intellectual knowledge rights and laws.

If they see a brilliant idea, they will take it and use it, and leave the rightful owner to try and gain some compensation through the courts. They know it will take years and years to settle and the rightful owner rarely gets adequate compensation.

Possibly the best thing that is happening to Chinese operations here, is that they have to abide by local laws, OH&S, Australian standards of all types, employ competent people, and prove their competence to operate.

The worst thing about all this, is that the Chinese Govt is a majority owner in every Chinese business of any modest size. As such, Chinese spying of every type is the order of the day - be it industrial, commercial, or defence espionage.

The vast majority of their spying would be purely to gain technological advantage - and I have little doubt the Chinese are rapidly gaining on the West in that area, purely because of Western laxity and lack of awareness of Chinese aims.

President Jinping has cheerfully announced fairly precise dates for when China becomes the worlds primary superpower. I have little doubt that they will achieve that position, only the dates are in doubt.
