frogman Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 I have a Rotax 503 and thinking about using Lucas semi-synthetic 2-cycle oil to mix with the gas;;;it says on the jug it is smokeless and low ash...so tell me the pros and cons of this oil..Thanks 1
robinsm Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 I believe mineral is recommended because of the long term coating of components when the engine is idle for long periods. Synthetics are good but, I believe, not for long term idle engines and components...just my understanding. 1 1
facthunter Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 It's not a pure synthetic. Synthetic technology. Synthetics without anti corrosion additives as you say, may be a problem where engines aren't used regularly. TC_W3 is what you don't want (outboard oils). Rotax say no even with their liquid cooled engines. Nev 1
Ben_luke9 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Look for a JASO FD OR FC rated oil. The testing to comply with jaso standard is refreshed regularly enough with many brands to choose from.
