Admin Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Icom have finally released their new top level hand held radio, the IC-A25NE which is certified for use in Australia. It has many bells and whistles including GPS: ICOM IC-A25NE - Australia
nomadpete Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Looks nice. Does it have dual watch function, Ian?
Admin Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Looks nice. Does it have dual watch function, Ian? Do you mean listen to 2 channels at once?
nomadpete Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Yes, Receiving two channels. Generally Tx operates on the primary channel. Main and standby channels both receive. Sometimes called 'dual watch'. I have a (illegal to transmit) Vertex hand held that has this feature, and it would be a great asset to be able to monitor Area frequency whilst also operating on Unicom (for instance).
Keenaviator Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Does the bluetooth function allow hands free use with something like a Sena bluetooth intercom?
BusaKaine Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Damn, I just bought an iCOM A-15 a month ago...
Keenaviator Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Are they in stock? I'd like to try the blue tooth with my paramotor intercom set up.
Admin Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 Yes mate, I have a couple left in stock at the moment

WHAT MODEL Vertex radio does that - 2-channel monitoring? Sounds like a sound (no pun) option to have.

About time they made these things look advanced, and digital, unlike most other radios on the market with tiny screens.

It has many bells and whistles including GPS:ICOM IC-A25NE - Australia Can you advise what is meant by certified for use in Australia and who certifies them. Does it mean they are legal to use in Australia both on the ground and in the air. I would have thought that some mention would have been made about this in their brochure.
Admin Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 Yes, it is certified for use on both land and in the air. Transmitters have to be certified by ACMA and CASA. Austalia requires a radio to have certain functions that are not required in other countries which is why it is illegal to use non Australian certified units in Australia...max $100,000 fine
Downunder Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 I believe if you intend to transmit from one on the ground and it's not related or connected to a particular aircraft, you need to register it as a base or ground station.
