kaz3g Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Woman's lucky escape after plane crashes in paddock near Bankstown Airport
planedriver Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 And for once the media got the aircraft type correct.
planesmaker Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I better be careful I was not aware planes could just start falling!
Roundsounds Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Why Woman’s lucky escape and not simply Pilot’s lucky escape?
pilotdave69 Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 see ch 9 for full story - Including live audio from atc
GraemeK Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 And for once the media got the aircraft type correct. Ahh, the old 6 seater Warrior, been a long time since I flew one of them ... No wonder it fell straight out of the sky!
frank marriott Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 400ltrs (90imp gls) of fuel, Must have long range tanks.
Jabiru7252 Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Why Woman’s lucky escape and not simply Pilot’s lucky escape? Had she died, a man would be blamed....
BirdDog Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 According to the radio chatter she ran out of petrol. (sic)
Marty_d Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 And for once the media got the aircraft type correct. It was ABC. They have far better form than most of the others.
Downunder Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 According to the radio chatter she ran out of petrol. (sic) At the last few CASA safety seminars (if I remember correctly) there has been far more crashes related to fuel starvation rather than fuel exhaustion.....Something to think about.
Roundsounds Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 At the last few CASA safety seminars (if I remember correctly) there has been far more crashes related to fuel starvation rather than fuel exhaustion.....Something to think about. But never fear! CASA are about to introduce new legislation in the form of CASR Part 91. Which will mandate pilots to declare a MAYDAY when their endurance is less than 30 mins. Do CASA really believe that would have prevented any aircraft incidents relating to fuel starvation or exhaustion?
turboplanner Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 LMY is a PA28-151 Cherokee Warrior It would be nice if a lot of other POHs were as comprehensive as this one, particularly for flight planning: http://www.aviators-bfi.com/siteassets/warrior_PA28-151_POH.pdf
alf jessup Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Ahh good old media reporting Fell out of the sky (really, like just stopped in mid air and fell) Ran out of petrol (wonder if it was E10, 91 RON, 95 RON or 98?) Spilt 400 litres of petrol, thought it ran out? (maybe fire service had petrol in their tanker instead of foam) Woman flying it (wonder what happened to the pilot) Easter miracle (we would have agreed with that if the reporting was anywhere close to the facts)
M61A1 Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 It was ABC. They have far better form than most of the others. Right wing misogynist fascists probably caused it....
pmccarthy Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Looks like it over- ran into the trees rather than landed in them. Direction it is pointed is probably not the landing direction.
kgwilson Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 My old Cherokee Archer held 50 US gallons (189 litres) of which 48 were useable. Where did the other 211 litres come from? If the cause was fuel starvation then one tank would be empty so the amount of fuel spilt would be a maximum of 90 litres. Sounds more like engine failure & the wing must have fallen off if it "fell out of the sky" but no they reported it being ripped off by the trees. Where do they get this stuff?
turboplanner Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 ...from "expert" "witnesses" and emergency workers at the scene, plus phoning the local aero club.
Marty_d Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Right wing misogynist fascists probably caused it.... Now you're getting it! Knew we'd lure you back from the dark side one day...
1958cessna172 Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Why Woman’s lucky escape and not simply Pilot’s lucky escape? Pilots good air"man"ship
