keithb
Hi gang, I actually joined this forum last Dec,but forgot to postt this thread. I live near Nowra NSW, do volunteer work for HARS, Radio LAME, and am currently getting to the end of a 9 year restoration to put an Auster Autocar J5G, owned by 3 syndicate member, back to flying. I am also a student pilot.
Mickeymax
Great to see you. Is HARS the aircraft museum at Albion Park? I offered to volunteer there 5 or 6 years ago and I had to pay to become a member before I could volunteer and got cheesed off. First time I've offered to give my time for nothing and been asked to pay for the privilege . In my opinion they do a good job but overate their own importance. keithb
Hi Mickeymax, soory to hear you had a bad experince with HARS. Yes it is the museum at Albion Park. I have been a member since 1998 when HARS only had one flying aircraft, the Neptune, and didn't have a place to call home base. While the membership fee is a bit onerous, it is necessary to cover costs, insurance and maintenance costs to mention a few. Nobody gets paid, we are all volunteers at HARS. HARS has now the defacto depository for Australian aviation heritage and has come a long way in 20 yrs.

keithb
Hello John, The current joining fee is $70/annum. At this time HARS is experiencing a shortage of qualified LAME's, the current LAME's are getting on in age and are going BER. The current skills are with all trades. A vast majority of volunteers are not aviation orientated, there are many tasks they do such as tour guides, shop attendants, IT, general maintenance, cleaning etc, they is a job for everyone if they want to participate. HARS has 2 large hangars at Albion Park A/P are are expected to be there for many years. HARS has already recovered one F27 and the other is due for arrival anytime. Regards Keith. johnm
Thanks Keith $ 70 seems fair for some good people interaction (and probably smooth's over many legalities)
