flie43 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Gidday Guys, I am planning a flight to Gippsland and Thorpdale is closer to where I need to get to than Latrobe Valley. Does any have any details on the strip..who owns it? Dimensions etc. I cannot seem to find it on google earth either. Any help appreciated. Oops aircraft is a C182 Terry
Peter Anson Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I'd say it's one of the many ghost airstrips that appear on Australian aeronautical charts. Some of them disappeared years ago.
red750 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Looking at OurAirports.com, the nearest alternatives are Drouin or Leongatha, probably not much closer than Traralgon. OurAirports also lists Ag strips and closed airports like Longwarry, Berwick and Pakenham.
kaz3g Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Thorp dale is shown on Ozrunways at S38.17.10 E146.10.00 but I can’t see any sign of a win sock on Google Earth. perhaps call the Aggie guys at Leongatha...they’ll know all the landing spots in Gippsland. kaz
alf jessup Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Can’t recall for sure who owns it maybe Durkin brothers who are spud farmers but people from there fly in to LTV so call the aero club there as they would possibly know. The strip I think from memory is on the SE edge of the footy ground
flie43 Posted May 19, 2018 Author Posted May 19, 2018 Great Alf , thanks heaps. I will LTV a call Terry
