Methusala Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 The aircraft was carrying 110 passengers and crew, and was heading to Holguin in eastern Cuba from the nation’s capital. It crashed shortly after takeoff, killing almost everyone on board. While the cause of the fatal incident remains unclear, eyewitnesses said that the plane tried to return to the airport after ascending and apparently hit a power line. (RT News)
danny_galaga Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 It’s quite incredible that there were any survivors. They showed one survivor on the news, still buckled to the seat. They carried him out of the wreckage still had in it!
shafs64 Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 From the look of the engines it was the old two hundred type.
yampy Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Yes it was an old 737-200 series , almost 39 yrs old .. Dave
danny_galaga Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 That’s an interesting point- because of the US blockade they wouldn’t have bought them new. I wonder when they bought them, and from which airline?
yampy Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 It was leased to Cubana by a Mexican airline group called Global Air . Global Air had owned the aircraft for 11 years and previously spent all its life operating in the USA , Canada and Mexico, being operated over the years by US Air , Piedmont , a few others and even the US Navy for a short stint .
