Callahan
Anybody ever do something like this? Did it about '92 when I was a young whippersnapper! I'd do it today if I could find a pole that long. This is as close to vertical I ever got it. At 85 mph the contraption was trying to tear itself loose. I tail slid one day, flags flew back'erds, lost photo. So what do you guys call it? 1) Crazy 2) Stupid 3) Bad example 4) Super Patriot 5) Nutso 3
Callahan
No. 5 came in at bottom...Nutso! The Amazing Maxair! It'll do anything! This one had a 582 on it.
facthunter
Sliding backwards has it's problems. I would not recommend it generally . People who know what they are doing can do wonders with a plane like this with EXTRA power and strengthened and flying it properly. Drag helps sometimes. You don't want speed to build up too quickly. You can put on a "super" demo in a Grumman AG Cat. (bit thirsty tho) Nev
Thruster88
I have seen thruster's do similar but not with the flags. Aussies are just not into flags like you guys. 1
Callahan
Nev & Fact, Thank you guys for not calling me names for doing crazy i.e. stupid, stuff. Very nose heavy as you can imagine. First flight was a terror. Those flags at 85 mph! I was waiting for one of the turnbuckles to pop loose. Had to use two flags to balance it out. No choice. Yeah, we're currently undergoing a flag, anthem & anything patriotic controversy in the U. S. The Left doesn't seem to realize they are not speaking Japanese or German because of a few hundred thousand incredibly brave Americans who died for their worthless asses! People! They have it so good here they just don't realize it. I did a long UN tour in Sudan. Every American should be required to serve in a 4th world country! Yes, 4th. Callahan
Red, That's terrible about you Aussies flag display situation. We're not far behind but when I hear of crap like that I think of our forefathers...your brave & proud Aussies with their digger hats who fought in WW II & Vietnam. Our guys over here too. They all sacrificed thoroughly for us! Incredible that things have come to this sad state of affairs. It's why I have no respect for bueraucracy or my brainless, know nothing fellow citizens! Monkey see - Monkey do. Lemmings. Downunder
Great idea going vertical with the flags! I'm now feeling patriotic...... off to ebay to buy some chinese made aussie flag stickers for my plane....lol.
Callahan
Laughing! Aussie flag stickers made in China! I remember back in the late 50s early 60s everything came from Japan & was a big joke! At least the Chinese stuff is better quality. Japs caught up quick though! Question: Is this the same Typhoon (gear wouldn't lower) that the guy put in the water just off the English coast when he could've just as easily landed it gear up on land? Callahan
That just about says it all PM. Speaking of that, when I bought my Drifter, I never gave a thought to the colors. Just thought it was a nice pretty color.....until one of my hangar pals asked me if I've started to "inhale the big ones!" That's his talk for my being a fag for which I am 100% NOT. I took exception of course & asked him what the hell he was talking about! He said "It's your colors man!" "What colors?" "The colors on your damn ultralight you Dummy! You bought a Fag/homo/queer ultralight!" "Why? What the hell?" "It's the same colors as that Rainbow fag group!" "Oh Crap! So that's why I've been getting so many limp wristed waves from guys along the beach!" "Yeah, no shit!"9 You are allowed to fly the rainbow gay flag anywhere.

Downunder
Question: Is this the same Typhoon (gear wouldn't lower) that the guy put in the water just off the English coast when he could've just as easily landed it gear up on land? I think you're thinking of a Tornado...... The Typhoon in my link is a ww2 fighter bomber. The poms scrapped every single one after the war....... Then one day your countrymen found one in a crate, stored in the US. It was sent over during the war to be tested but I'm not sure if it ever flew.... Anyway, the poms got it back and it is in a museum in England. This is officially the only complete example. The preservation group are trying to find enough parts to make an airworthy one... A pretty mamoth task... Just getting the engine running itself is a major hurdle. The Napier Sabre engine being a double flat 12 (24 cyl) sleeve valve engine.......3000 odd hp in it's prime.....
Callahan
Yes, I know the Typhoon. Had a large rounded scoop nose sort of. Could pack a punch. Thanks for clarifying that. A "double flat" motor? Never heard of an engine design like that. I'll Google it. Taken literally, that's two sets of horizontally opposed cylinders. Maybe that's the reason for the large rounded intake. Friend of mine sold his Mustang to a guy in Germany for a cool 1 million. Too cheap! Thanks! Very interesting! Downunder
Yeah, 2 flat 12's basically. 2 cranks geared together.... I don't th8nk one has been "run" pretty much since the war.... There was some sound bites floating around of one doing a low pass.... Sounded more like a turbine than a pistion engine....

Callahan we are grateful for the role USA played in defeating fascism, but there was never any chance of your country being subjugated by either Germany or Japan. As a thoughtful liberal democrat (perhaps what in the US would be called a member of “The Left”, I despair about the ongoing destruction of the once great American Dream by a tiny minority of incredibly greedy con men, while they distract the rapidly shrinking US middle class by telling them what they want to hear. I totally agree with you that more Americans should spend time in other countries. As well as learning how well off they are back home, they might also discover that America could learn much from other nations. 5
facthunter
They would have to know where they (the other countries) are first. Humility isn't their strong point. either and that's necessary to learn from others They were "GREAT" (assumption) as they want to be great AGAIN, but perhaps as a result of lendlease and WW2 for a while they were Top Dog economically.. That's really a brief time in the REAL world. and It doesn't make them an Empire in the Chinese or Roman or Egyptian ( or a few others ) sense. They DO have the Biggest arsenal of weapons by far as they spend $#!T loads to achieve it but can they afford an all out arms race? Recall it sent the Soviet Union Broke. US infrastructure is not in good shape Its out of date and worn out. As the US would inevitably beat Japan with it's industrial output capability 75 years ago it's CHINA that has the likelihood of winning in that scenario from now on. . The scary fact is USA must beat China before that happens if they are so stupid as to not accept the rest of the world exists and they can't continue shoving it around as Trump is doing. Hitler wanted a 3rd Reich. Is the concept of an America GREAT much different? Loyalty with allies doesn't seem to count at all with this CHARACTER. He prefers people who put "their" people in the place they belong (poverty and subservience) and flourish as DICTATORS and TYRANTS over them. Old Koreelah, You're a Lib I could talk to peacefully. The Left has taken over the media here with very few exceptions. From Facebook to CNN. We are descending into Socialism. It's an all-out effort. Research Venezuela. We can't afford open borders. Research South Africa where many of my friends live. We have Trump being investigated while common criminals Hillary & Obama run free. To keep it short, I'll omit details. As for Trump, we know he's not perfect but considering the alternative, no contest. I respect your opinion but I live by following my common sense.
