Riley Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 Any gurus out there who have used (or know of an instance where) a Suzuki G10T turboed car engine that's been converted for experimental Cat 19 RAA aircraft use? Apparently the ICP Savannah VG was/is offered with that power-plant option from the factory. Wanting to establish if it could suit a Pietenpol. Any leads would be gratefully received. Tks n rgds.
bexrbetter Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 A number of people who have used them have had no trouble with the engines themselves, but with other things falling off the aircraft due to torsional vibrations that are quite bad with some 3 cylinder engines. That's all I got.
rep003 Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Air Trikes: Engines and Conversion Kits. Seems to have several references to Suzuki Conversions , & at least one for the G10T Cheers
mnewbery Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 We know that popular 2-stroke Rotax 503 and 582 are not certified aviation engines but variations of snowmobile engines with all 2-strokers' problems Who is "we" ?
fly_tornado Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 burn him @mnewbery SPG-2 This gearbox was designed for aviation conversion of engines up to 180 h.p. It has been in production since 2000. The available reduction ratios are 2.03, 2.34, 2.5. There is a German (BMW) rubber damper between the gear box and the engine. The propeller moment of inertia up to 9,000 kg/cm2. Rotax-style propeller hub, propeller shaft with a hole. It is possible to use this gearbox for both (tractor and pusher) layouts. A hollow output shaft allows for variable pitch prop. .The advantages of this conversion kit are its big TBO and reliability, with the possibility of using heavy propellers. Using this kit, you don't need to change belts and pay for them. You don't need to modify the engine block so the mechanical part of conversion is very simple - just bolting the gearbox up. You will keep a stock water outlet wit h thermostat. I heard a lot about overheating problem from people using conversions with modifi ed water cooling system but have never had it even with my small radiator closed by BRS system. It is also its hi gh efficiency. For example, I got 375lbs of static thrust from my stock unmodified engine with a 2.5 RR gearbox and low noise 69" 3-blade carbon propeller. Now we provide not only conversion kits but also ready-to-install power plants based on low-mileage stock or completely remanufactured and modified GEO-Suzuki engines. We also sell gearbox conversion kits for the Subaru EA-71 EA-82 EJ-18 EJ-20 EJ-22. mnewbery Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Wow that was too easy. Someone by the name of "ignored member" keeps coming up in the responses just after I write a reply in a lot of these threads. No idea who it is or what they are saying. Probably drivel. Any who, I am trying to track down a NSW pilot who was using a G13B or something like it in a Moyes Dragonfly to tow hang gliders. If I can find out anything I will post pictures
pmccarthy Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Ignored member could be any of us. I always feel ignored when I post. :rotary:
