RyanBeckley Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Hi Everyone I am looking at importing a RV4 into Aus, the aircraft is pretty much complete, engine mounted, instruments wired etc. All that needs to be done is the paint job. The aircraft was never registered in South Africa where it was built as it hasn’t yet flown. Any ideas as to wether I will encounter any problems in importing or registering the aircraft? Obviously everything has been closed up so that becomes a problem for inspecting inside closed structures. The aircraft does have a full build log. I would really appreciate any help Thanks in advance Ryan
old man emu Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 It would be no different from importing an aircraft from any other country. One of the things that has to be done if an aircraft had been registered in another country is to to have it removed from that country's register. An aircraft comes into Australia as a Stateless object. You will face the usual problems (not insurmountable) relating to quarantine and a swag of taxes, plus freight handling. If you built it, then getting it through registration here should not be any problem.
RyanBeckley Posted September 18, 2018 Author Posted September 18, 2018 Fantastic, thank you so much Emu
Yenn Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 It shouldn't be too difficult to import or register, but you most likely will not be able to do maintenance if it is GA registered, unless you already have that ability.
fly_tornado Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 it could considered used, so you will probably have to put the aircraft through an AQIS inspection. Its a few hundred bucks and what ever you do don't use wood packing material. are you going FCL? 1
