sandman Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 What would be just a general cleaner for all flying wires on the drifter, after a little while they have lost their shine and appear a dull brown colour ( not rust ).
onetrack Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Try some Ambersil Stainless Steel Cleaner FG. WD40 is not recommended for Aviation use, even by the manufacturer. Ideally, Ambersil PX24 is the product that should be used, but I cannot find anyone selling it in Australia. PX24 is used by all Defence forces, and is NATO and DEF STAN approved, as well as Aviation-approved. Ambersil Stainless Steel Cleaner FG
old man emu Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I'd say that the manufacturer does not recommend WD40 in aviation use for its usual role as a lubricant. However, the task here is to clean metal, and for such a use, WD40 is known to be useful. It is simply being used as a penetrant and surfactant. The manual cleaning process will remove it from the wires.
