pmccarthy Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 On Friday I resolved to eat and drink healthy and exercise more. Sat urday and Sunday I did and felt great. Today I am camped by a lake and drank half a bottle of wine and ate a lot of cheese biscuits and a meat pie. I don’t understand why I can’t keep up the good lifestyle for more than a couple of days. Yesterday I could have sworn that I had turned it a round. Right now I am thinking of walking into town to the pub for a beer and dinner. 1

shafs64 Posted November 12, 2018 Author Posted November 12, 2018 I did that blood sugar test and passed. I am glad i didn't take it eight months ago.
Bryon Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 I have found that one of the biggest hurdles to successful weight loss is usually mindset For example: every time I get the urge to exercise, I lay down and wait until the urge passes This is when I realised that weight loss is detrimental to your mental health So now I dont get stressed over weight loss and I am happy 1
farri Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 In my thirties, I was having a cup of coffee with a Doctor and when he saw me put 3 teaspoons of sugar into it, he told me that if I continued doing that I would develop Diabetes! Well, I did continue doing that! I`ve never had to diet and my weight has always remained around 70kg. On 01/01/19, I will turn 71 and I still don`t have any signs of Diabetes or Heart disease. I start my day with a big cup of Coffee, 3 teaspoons of sugar and these days also 2 teaspoons of condensed milk... On a bad day, I might have another 4 or 5 cups of black Coffee with 3 teaspoons of sugar in each! I don`t eat anything for breakfast, very rarely have lunch but have a moderate meal in the evening, so, basically, I`m doing it all wrong! This year I`ve had 2 blood tests by 2 different doctors and neither found anything wrong with my Kidneys or Liver, apparently, I`m going to live till I die... . We`re all individuals and what works for one may not work for another! I reckon it`s best to stick to whatever is needed and works for you. Franco.
Old Koreelah Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 " I can still get into the racing leathers made for me in 1976." Spacey I should have mentioned that my leathers are now a bit tight, proof that leather shrinks.
facthunter Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Some bad influences on this Site. Heaping sugar and condensed milk and wearing other animals skins. SLOW animals obviously as you wouldn't catch the fast ones.. Leather s make you sweat and that causes weight loss. Being SICK causes it too. Maybe where you live also. In the Tropics a lot of white fellows drank a lot but stayed thin.. Obesity is a modern thing. If you look at old photos, there are not a lot of fat people, unless you are a King or a Friar. One thing we agree on, is it's not that healthy to be overweight, particularly if your ancestors are Aboriginal or Pacific Islanders that don't go well with "junk" food. and get Diabetes to a greater extent.. facthunter Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 The CSIRO's diet was criticized as having too much red meat in it , when it came out, connecting this with some financial support it received. This may or may not be true. The emphasis on high protein is to avoid muscle atrophy when losing weight supposedly, which can be a problem. I would say it's a way of losing weight without side effects. Slow and steady seems to be the way, rather than rapid. A lot of people look for quick results and are on/off the scales all the time.. It's certainly not helpful to have it going up and down rapidly. Benefits in blood sugar levels are almost instant in many cases, and a friend of mine who was quite ill with "type 2" diabetes related symptoms became "non Diabetic" after lapband. He has got around the surgery by eating differently but still too much it so has plateaued above ideal weight. I'm sure he would have been dead years ago without some drastic action, at the time.. I'm NOT recommending surgery as obviously IF you can do it without it you are better off. Like quitting smoking you have to make a switch in your head how you want to live. It's going to make you a much safer pilot as you eliminate a lot of risk symptoms with eyesight and circulatory problems, possible stroke, DVT clots, sleep apnea etc. Nev
shafs64 Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 I was watching an old ABC four corners report from the 1961 and the people where well spoken they were also average size. These day they say parents will outlive their kids. one reason why is kids get driven to school these day. myself we rode or walked an hour each way to school.

"on & off the scales" I have four set's of scales, two for the mains and one for the training wheel, and another for trailing wheel !. LoL But on a serious note, anyone know of a person with a crook RIGHT hip, I would like to do a Swap for my left hip, for a couple of weeks at a time. Give us both relief from the pain in the same leg all the time. spacesailor
shafs64 Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Hi Spacesailer Are you able to get a replacement hip?
spacesailor Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Six months just to see a BONE SPECIALIST for their referral letter, then I might get onto a waiting list for public hospital for the next few years. Have my GP writing the referral to said bone doctor. I heard there is a dr in Merrilands or Wentworthville who bulk-bills, but doesn't advertise that fact. spacesailor
farri Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Obesity and Diabetes, type 1 and type 2 are very serious health issues and no joking matter! My above post was my attempt to show that for me, Sugar has never caused me to become Obese or Diabetic! I`ve always been very active and still am and I believe, energy in, energy out! I use up a lot of energy in my normal day. I would never, ever, recommend that anyone, do ANYTHING! that I do! I said it earlier! We are all individual and therefore need to find what works best for ourself.
facthunter Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 You are lucky to have those good mediterranean genes Franco.. Do you use a lot of tomatoes ? I've had a crook back for years from lifting V8 blocks in an engine reconditioning shop as a young fellow who wouldn't listen to anyone warning of back damage with lifting too much the wrong way. Use what you have for as long as possible. Operations don't make it as good as nature did. I got 3 discs moving that were described as dessicated by exercising (twisting) over a long period without load on the spine on a firm mattress( Lower back) Unrelated, I was also booked for a neck op but the final examination just before going under the knife showed it had improved and was near normal, and the planned op was not needed . The specialist said "It happens sometimes" but was somewhat astounded. That was done by exercising. (Movement mainly no load or jerking) Your spine needs to be kept moving. A disc was impinging on the spinal chord when it moved. Now it's OK. Better to consult with a good physio about it as they can be helpful . ( not always).. Nev

In the late nineties i had and issue with my left ankle and was on the victorian waiting list for years. it was never fixed i just had to live with it. fast forward to 2014 and my right knee started to give out on my i had to stop work. But i was lucky that my employer had to hold my job for me. I had private health cover so i was in hospital and had a full knee replacement and back at work in two months. I just had to pay hospital excess. The cost to do the replacement was 35g

I know nothing of said doctor and may be casting him in a wrong light but .... but as a specialist anaesthetist who anaesthetises for a range of surgeons in the private world- there’s a reason some surgeons charge way less, or have short waiting lists. - charge nothing because that’s the only way GPs will refer to them and patients will see them. You get what you pay for I’m afraid. The other thing is waiting times - I have heard people say they had to wait x weeks to see Dr. A but they can get in to see Dr. B tomorrow. Well there’s a reason for that too. Dr A is a fine surgeon who all the GPs want their patients to see while Dr B is a nitwit who stays just one jump ahead of the malpractice suits and no caring GP will let their patients go near.
spacesailor Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 J W This long range doctor, I believe is not the surgeon just a referral specialist. The surgeons will be "who-ever is on" at the time. My GP has given me a list of telephone numbers to ring and to choose the earliest, I can get to get onto the wait list. spacesailor

My GP has given me a list of telephone numbers to ring and to choose the earliest, I can get to get onto the wait list. spacesailor I’m confused by that statement. Sounds like you’re saying ( but I could be wrong) Your GP will send you to someone who will then send you to someone else. Your GP can refer you ( legally) to the final guy direct. I’m not sure what the middle guy does. The statement “who ever is on” is an unusual setup in private medicine. It’s the standard in public (free) medicine. The whole principle being you chose your own surgeon rather than be forced to accept any surgeon who may or may not be any good. Odd set up.
spacesailor Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 J W Yes it will be in a public hospital. As a quote from another hip replacement person said, "The surgeon filled out the very basics in the Hospital Elective Surgery Admission Form then past it to me saying fill this out and take it to hospital Elective Surgery Administration.. Good Luck!" Yes it will be in a public hospital. So it's not just me being awkward, (Surgeon won't be paid for surgery, but get's $270 for their letter) spacesailor
farri Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 You are lucky to have those good mediterranean genes Franco.. Do you use a lot of tomatoes ? Nev 4 Nev, if by use you mean eat, In fact, I eat very few tomatoes, I enjoy growing them though but give most away. I started my working life at 14 years of age and I`ve had back problems most of my adult life due to the heavy lifting I`ve had to do on the numerous jobs I`ve had, no workplace health and safety on any of them, just did what I had to do at the time! Then there`s been the lifting of fertilizer bags, for many years, when I was farming, made a decision though, years ago, not to have surgery because if it wasn`t successful it could have made it a lot worse... Life goes on!!! 1
facthunter Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Franco, Your back and mine are in probably in a similar condition, from a similar cause Lower back , from lifting "too heavy" weights. Often surgery is not the answer and the right activity and exercises works, but you have to keep at it. In the early 90's when I (unfortunately) acquired a Vineyard the intense Physical work aggravated mine and I went to many Physio's . At the time they all more or less gave up on me the last one I saw at that time saying I would certainly not be able to drive a car unless for a brief time or especially a tractor (at all), fly a plane, ride motorcycles etc and that my back was the worst she had ever seen. Well that's about 29 years ago now ., I'm still going. I (like You) have to live with what I've got, as there's no other real option but I still do all those things. Cheers.. Nev 1

Nev 1 Nev, I`ve never let anything stop me doing anything I`ve really wanted to do in my life and I`m not about to change anytime soon!... Cheers...Oh!... I don`t own a motorbike anymore but I still hold an R class motorbike license and I`m still capable of riding! John, my neighbor up the road has 2 motorbikes and he wants me to go riding again with him, so I will.
