Brett Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Does anybody know if the exhaust temps are still high enough after a turbocharger to be vaible for a smoke system? Obviously injecting oil into the exhaust before the turbo you have back pressure plus other issues also.
skippydiesel Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Without actually going out and measuring the temps, it would seem likely, to me, that the immediately after turbo exhaust temps will be slightly lower but not by much to the inlet temp. The exception to this might be low power/RPM situation where the turbo housing would be cooler and the lower/slower flow allow the gas to cool.
Brett Posted November 8, 2018 Author Posted November 8, 2018 That is the plan to temporarily fit a sensor to the exhaust but assumed someone may know off the top of their head... I'm sure I wouldn't be the first to try this.
facthunter Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 The temp could be considerably lower. You extract energy. Also the noise is reduced for the same reason.. All the piping upstream of the turbocharger is usually red hot on an aircraft engine in cruise. Luckily you don't get to see it all the time. Nev
