Thanks to Mike Ralph (and, indirectly, Doug) for causing, then enhancing this thread - by completing the 'story'.

 

Many lessons for us all.. It was this article that caused me to think that I cannot do without an AH in the 3-axis a/c that I am planning to buy.

 

This is surely the main advantage that flows from sharing real experiences and knowledge with others in the fraternity.

Like you Chris, I also would like the extra sense of security an AH would give me. However, I'm reminded of the wisdom of experienced 4X4 folk who chuckle when they see a brand new winch fitted to a bull bar. A winch will only get an inexperienced offroader further into the bog and may make recovery impossible!
