Guest pelorus32 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The only two I know are in the fourth row: The first in that row is Lord Howe. The fourth in that row is Courchevel in France. Regards Mike
Guest David C Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The second row photo and also the 1st on the third row is Funchal Airport on the Island of Madeira . Dave C
Guest Pioneer200 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Bottom photo looks like St Marteen in Netherland Antilles This airport is famous for low approach over beach, bathers can almost stand and touch undercarriage of jets near touchdown!
slartibartfast Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Middle top row is Santos Dumont - the (now) regional airport in Rio de Janeiro. Named after the great Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont.
Bruce Robbins Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Picture13.jpg, third row, third pic, is Lukla in Nepal, instigated by the late Sir Hillary. Flew in there in a chopper whilst it was still gravel. There was a crashed twin otter you flew over on short final.
markendee Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Hi there Jordy, What do you reckon? The car under the Jumbo has a shadow and the big plane doesn't. Good photo but!
jordy Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Before i downsized the photo you could zoom in and see onlookers lying on the road against thier car taking photo's.( and holding their ears as well i would guess) rather than it being the cars shadow. I've never flown into there but if the photo is genuine it is some sort of amazing feat!!!

poteroo Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 This will bring back memories for anyone who used to fly in PNG. Tapini in the Owen Stanley ranges, 66nm NW of Port Moresby. Altitude about 3300, length about 800m, slope about 12% up overall-(16% at top), no go round once you're on final. RAAF 'planted' a Caribou on the threshold in 69 - victims of the false horizon effect. Patair and STOL operated Aztecs, 310's, Navajo, Piaggio 166 in there regularly
poteroo Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Another Interesting PNG strip - Ambunti in the Sepik The trap with this one is that final is over water, and there's very little upslope. Not much chance of a go-round from late final, hence we always overflew the station so that everyone knew an aircraft would soon be landing. Annual rainfall is about 200 inches - strip is invariably slippery. Only ever went there in a C185 - wouldn't fancy anything faster!
