fly_tornado Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 probably not a consideration for most voters but its interesting to see that they are trying https://anthonyalbanese.com.au/albo_wpbird/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Aviation-Policy-FINAL.pdf
Yenn Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Just about the same as we did with him, which is wait for something to happen. I think Clive Palmer would be as much use as Albo. 2

Marty_d Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I think Clive Palmer would be as much use as Albo. Shirley you must be joking. The only way Palmer would be of equal (or more) use as Albo would be if used for fertilizer. In any other situation, Palmer's use is of very little value compared to pretty much anyone.
fly_tornado Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 name an issue Albanese has any influence over in the last 5 years? take your time
Marty_d Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 name an issue Albanese has any influence over in the last 5 years? take your time Why the last 5 years? There's many politicians who've done bugger-all in the last 5 years. And Clive Palmer has never done anything positive, apart from split the RWNJ vote.
fly_tornado Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 I just thought you would have known of an issue that he's been influential in as a shadow minister. All I can think of is reducing the craft beer excise. I just think he's a bit of a lightweight

Marty_d Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 The point is, Yenn was saying Clive Palmer was as much use as Albo. Now Albo may not have done much in the last 5 years, but even a politician who did exactly nothing at all - ever - would be more use than Palmer. I like Albo, I thought he should have got the leadership instead of Shorten. Depending on how things go tomorrow I may be proved wrong.
Bruce Tuncks Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I had great hopes when Andrew Broad got into parliament, on account of him being the local member for the farm plus a brumby owner. I even wrote to him and got a politician's reply. Alas, he did nothing.

turboplanner Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Well he did enough to get himself booted out. These people don't get to make individual missions relating to farms or flying; they are required to vote on the Party Line, and many of them only wake up to that after they've been elected.

Kununurra Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Well the old saying is “pay peanuts and all you will get is monkeys” Bob Hawk was a popular politician because he could see past the next election. I am not sure that any of the clowns we have now can see past the end of their nose. I respect each person to have their own views & I have said mine. Cheers 1
kaz3g Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 typical labor, broad goals that mean very little Pretty much like the Liberal policy...you only get the barebones and no substance when you don’t go looking further. “The Coalition will strengthen our aviation industry and allow it to be more competitive. We will ensure our aviation sector is safe, reliable, efficient, competitive and proud to be Australian. To support the growth of our aviation industry, the Coalition will: abolish the carbon tax and its insidious impact on aviation fuels and aviation businesses; establish a formal Aviation Industry Consultative Council to meet regularly with the Minister; establish a high level external review of aviation safety and regulation in Australia; ensure that the Australian Transport Safety Bureau is adequately resourced; reform the structure of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority; focus on the better utilisation of Australian airspace; support regional aviation by introducing a new and better targeted En Route Rebate Scheme; recognise the importance of Australian airports to the economy; revitalise the General Aviation Action Agenda; continue to promote aviation liberalisation; enhance aviation skills, training and development; and ensure that aviation security measures are risk based. The Coalition will ensure Australia has a safer and more competitive aviation sector” http://lpaweb-static.s3.amazonaws.com/Coalition%202013%20Election%20Policy%20–%20Aviation%20–%20final.pdf People only see what they want to see in the political debates. And the Liberals this time around have adopted for the traditional Opposition approach of “small target” and no policy revelations while Labor has been pumping them out like a Government resting on its laurels. All very confusing for the political pundits including FT.
old man emu Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Rather a moot point, now. All Hail the status quo. 2
turboplanner Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Rather a moot point, now. All Hail the status quo. Well theoretically Albo, who had his hair styled recently should become too busy leading his Party, give or take some infighting and Caucus. The old guard are a bit thin on the ground now, so a new face could come to the surface and give us a surprise. 1
Yenn Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Kaz. That could just as easily have come from Palmer. It is just about the same as all his electioneering. We all know that what is said before the election is only to gain votes and anything that can be done or not done after the election will be done. Not necessarily what was promised. 2
spacesailor Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Labor's promises have flown out of the door. Another long wait for relief from the "poverty pension". And I won't hold my breath for Scomo's promises to come to fruition. spacesailor
kaz3g Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 I saw Albo being interviewed on the telly last night and hardly recognised him...looked like a heart attack waiting to happen. John Howard looked and sounded even worse. Would be nice to see some political renewal happening and a new leader for Labor could be the start of it. There aren’t many stars on either side and would be a change to see a new one rising. 1 1
kaz3g Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Labor's promises have flown out of the door. Another long wait for relief from the "poverty pension". And I won't hold my breath for Scomo's promises to come to fruition. spacesailor Scomo was famously quoted as saying that we shouldn’t be relying on the existence of an age pension down the track which gives me cause to be concerned. I’m 75 and still working full-time because it’s the only way I can manage to fly. Once I stop I’ll be solely reliant on the age pension. My super is just enough to pay out my mortgage on a very modest home. I know some might say I’m irresponsible spending money on an indulgence but I have to tell you my return to flying and the aeroplane gave me a reason for living...a prospect that had been previously unlikely for a considerable period of time. And yes, CASA AvMed knew of my history and renewed my medical after ascertaining that my mental health issues had been resolved. I know that they are often criticised but I found them very professional and reasonable. I recently passed a biannual examination and my licence was renewed for a further two years. It would be nice to see my pension, whenever I eventually claim it, adjusted to take into account the decade plus of work performed and consequent tax paid since I was first eligible for it. Just dreaming... 8 1

The sorry thing is that while Prime Ministers warn the rest of us that the Aged Pension sauropod might be one of the next things to go extinct in this country, Parliamentary Pension theropods will continue to evolve to higher planes. The rich get richer and everyone else can get stuffed. 3 2
spacesailor Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Kaz. Hope you Can manage on $413,a week, for single, Or $311, each for couples. No bloody flying on those Poverty pension's. Europe get the equivalent of 500 pound weekly. POOR poms only half that, (about $475 a week AND some get free housing, plus a Free CAR. spacesailor 1
