I have got several hours of videotape of aircraft landing at Kai Tak taken by a friend of mine. I've also got some I took myself from a junk out in the harbour close to the runway. The best one was 12 seconds from wings level in the final turn to touch down. It certainly wasn't the place for the chicken hearted pilot, particularly when there was a good cross wind.

Amazing place to land. Had first hand experience (as a passenger) at the old HK airport in '83, and not one I'd care to repeat!!!

I landed there a number of times between 90 and 98. It was awesome! I particularly loved looking down the wing into people's apartments to see what they were watching on TV.

I flew into Chep Lap Kok (Kai Tak's replacement) on the first week it was open because my then wife was building it single-handed (I think that's what she said) and I spent most of 98 there helping to look after all the wives while our men went off to work.

It's a hard life.
