Mark11
I can't remember where I found this pic.... Could have been for sale in NZ... I'm really liking bi-planes at the moment! Anyone else got some photos of bipes that only need an RAA licence? winsor68
Apparently these Tiger Cub 440 Ultralight Biplanes were popular kits in Europe... Even folds its wings to fit on a trailer.

Pilot Pete
The top plane looks like a Ragwing Special. There is a large range of bipes available to RAAUS pilots...Fisher aircraft, Ragwing aircraft, Grahame Lee Nieuports, Airdrome Airplanes with their large raqnge of WW1 biplanes, Micro Mong, EAA biplane just a tip of the iceberg so to speak. pylon500
Here's a more up-to-date picture of JIY: it's no longer a biplane Actually, if you look closely, you will notice the Airbus is registered HB-JIY. That is a Swiss rego, not the New Zealand (ZK-) rego, which does not need to be displayed on aircraft staying in NZ. For more Ultralight registrable biplanes, have a look at this thread; <http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/aircraft-design-aerodynamics-new-technology/1913-best-ultralight-biplane.html>
ave8rr
There is no aircraft on the New Zealand register with the registration ZK-JIY. Yes ZK-JIY is on the NZ register. First registered in 1997. It is currently owned by a gentleman in Hawkes Bay. It is a fisher FP404 and is currently advertised for sale on Trademe. Anyone else got some photos of bipes that only need an RAA licence? Google Murphy Renegade. There are a few of them on the RAAus register. There may be one for sale in the Brisbane area. Re the pix above. It is a Fisher Flying products FP404 and is currently for sale in NZ. Cheers
Danger Mouse
I like the look of this one - it's called an Easy Eagle - VW powered. Plans available from Great Plains Aircraft I notice a reserved rego on the register so someone is building one.....

djpacro
FK12 Comet aerobatic LSA biplane designed in Germany and produced in Poland features folding wings, but it was so new it didn’t have them yet. http://www.eaa.org/apps/galleries/gallery.aspx?ID=435&p=6&c=
facthunter
I go to a lot of trouble to not have folding wings. A bi plane is easy to make strong, but so is a strutted hi wing. Visability can be compromised a bit on a biplane and they usually have more drag. Often in a two seater access to the front cockpit is a bit hampered. Some of them look great. Mark11
The Renegade Spirit can be purchased in a quick build kit form. Weights for the Renegade Spirit run 420 to 520 pounds. Forward of the Spirit firewall there can be a Rotax 582 (65 hp.), or if you prefer four cycle, a Rotax 912 (80-100 hp.). The Spirit also features the nostalgic look of the rounded bump cowling that made antique aircraft like the Monocoupe famous. Depending on where you live, the Renegade might qualify for ultralight aircraft status. Extract from a website for a kit.... Sounds very promising.... I need to fly one now!
