Guest Guest Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 National News Labor seeks inquiry into jet delays 3:21 PM March 11 The Labor Party has called for a parliamentary inquiry into what it has called an emerging gap in Australia's air defences. Labor's defence spokesman Arch Bevis says the Federal Government's decision to retire F-111 fighter jets in 2010 has left Australia vulnerable. He says the replacement US Joint Strike Fighter will not be ready until three years after the F-111s are retired. Development costs for the new jets have blown out by 80 per cent. Mr Bevis says a US Government report reveals the fighter, which is being developed by America, is two years behind schedule. Source: ABC
