Guest colt_pa22 Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Singapore Airlines Australia ? USA access rights Should Singapore airlines, among other airlines such as Emirates be given access by the Australian Government to fly the lucrative Australia - North America pacific route? Comments for yes or no... colt
TAA Matt Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 No, this is one of QF's major routes, both Australians and Americans take this route because Qantas is better than United, if other airlines get the right, we will be giving flights for our major carrier away.
Guest colt_pa22 Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 5 to 2 in favor of "no" , reasons for no? colt
Guest Sunshy Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 No. giving access to Singapore would most likely mean giving access to all airlines, including low cost carriers. Lets keep the LCC's restricted to short flights, so they don't mess with the legacy carriers to much. After all, we need the legacy carriers to go where we want, not just the high paying routes.
Guest colt_pa22 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 SINGAPORE Airlines' bid to fly between Australia and the US could be deferred for another two years, with the Howard Government deciding to buy time by allowing Virgin Blue to compete head-to-head with Qantas on the lucrative route The main issue for the Government is the Qantas outsourcing question, lower airfares for consumers, better service and therefore increased tourism seems to be irrelevant. For the relatively few Qantas job's that will inevitably go to Asia, consumers are paying more for lousy service. colt
Guest Swagman Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Well if QF offer lousy service then trans Pac fliers can try United Air Canada, Hawaiian (?) or Air New Zealand not forgetting Virgin in due course. There is competition out there - if you want to talk about QF monopoly what about Syd Cbr - not even a hint of Jetstar or other competition there.
Guest colt_pa22 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I realise there are many of ways to get to LAX from MEL or SYD and consumers have many choices. Other options include Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Air Pacific, Air Tahiti Nui or Korean Air, just depends on how much you love flying or $$$ you have. As you know, there is no competition on MEL-LAX and basically a duopoly on SYD-LAX direct services. People tend to want to fly direct nowadays which is usually the fastest. colt
