This would be amazing if it happened - there's a report in Feb's Airliners World with a nice picture of the engine covers off for inspection.

I wonder if Travolta would be up for the job of flying her home? :)

Okay that link is a dead end so the story in essence is that 707-138 HZ-123 which was originally delivered to Qantas as VH-EBA (1959) is now at Southend in the UK (or Sarfend as the locals call it). It's been looked at by members of the Outback Museum with a view to restoring it to airworthiness and flying it back to join the 747 on display at Longreach

707 is o?ne such aircraft that some would argue is the most significant QANTAS aircraft after the Avro due to the fact that it introduced Australia to the jet age. There are ex-Qantas 707 aircraft still in existence, but for how much longer?

There are currently 6 -138s still in exisitence out of 13 delivered to Qantas

That gives the Qantas foundation at least 11 aircraft to start making offers, I'm sure they will get one.

Looks like she has been sitting for quite a few years, 30th of September 1999 to be exact, she'll probably need 747 loads of money to get her flying again.

One of Southend's longer residents. HZ-123 was the first ever Jet aircraft that Qantas operated, and was also the first ever shortened variant of the 707. A few months ago, its future was uncertain - but now, its future is bright. Shortly, HZ-123 is due into a hanger here at Southend for a check over, it will then (if financially possible) be restored to an air-worthy condition to make the long flight over to Australia, where Qantas would like to keep it as a museum piece. Lesson over! - Canon 300D

I hope they get her.
