Guest Glenn Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 2 DC-3's :) I received notification last night from Steve Core of Discovery Air Tours at Bankstown that 2 DC-3's were coming to Cowra for a charter. The two aircraft were Discovery Air Tours VH-DNA and Pionair ZK-AMS. Arrival was around 10:10am with DNA ariving first followed by AMS shortly after. Perfect landing by the two. I had the scanner on but only heard Melbourne centre talking to the crew of both aircraft but unfortunately could not hear them. I heard MC inform AMS that DNA were 13 miles ahead and then say to DNA that AMS was behind on the same track and travelling slightly faster than DNA. I got a look through both aircraft and managed to take a lot of photos. Departure time was around 3:45pm. Things were going so well this afternoon. Both aircraft decided to start up and move a little closer so the passengers didn't have so far to walk. Pionair was turning around pretty close to the fence and I could see that he wasn't going to make it. I was waving for him to stop but he kept going. Finally he realised he wasn't going to make it. A great day for spotting. See pics below. Many more to come if you want to see them 8)
Guest Swagman Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 How close was that? You almost had a priceless photo there mate! Love to see more pics if you can link to them. Classic aircraft - gotta get out to Bankstown to get on one of their harbour flights one of these days. I emailed Discovery a while ago for dates but never had a reply but I'd better organise it sooner rather than later.
Guest Glenn Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 He would of hit that pole if I wasn't there. Have a look at Discovery Air Tours web site at http://www.discoveryairtours.com.au/ Will get some photos up when I can.

Guest Swagman Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Why do tourists go on a charter to Cowra? I'm not being sarcastic.....serious question. I'm guessing wineries but.....?

Guest Glenn Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 These two DC-3's will be back here on Wednesday 1st March. :D
Guest Glenn Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 VH-SBL and VH-DNA both from Discovery Air Tours are here now. Remember the photos I took of the close call with the Pionair wing tip? Well I almost got the pilot into trouble over those  He wasn't too happy that I had put the photos on the net. Well he should've been more careful and if he did hit the post then things would be much worse. But everyone was ok about it and no harm was done. 8)
Guest Glenn Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Here are some photos as requested of VH-SBL and VH-DNA that visited on Wednesday March 1st. Edit - forgot to resize these sorry. They look better in a small size. Edit - Resized now :) SBL exiting the runway http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/4738/19qr.jpg Another shot of SBL http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/2296/22tf.jpg Side on look at SBL http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/8687/33ya1.jpg DNA exiting the runway http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/2786/46ge.jpg DNA just about to shut down http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/140/55yl.jpg SBL departing http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/8314/68qx1.jpg DNA waiting 10 minutes for SBL to get ahead http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/9255/76oa1.jpg DNA just started up http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/9969/83ih.jpg Off she goes for a 33 departure http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/1759/95ue.jpg
sixtiesrelic Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 What's better.... Sorry about the quality it WAS 1973 in the tropics. Unfortunately all my negatives were in the only box that got wet while sitting under a tarp on the wharf for six weeks. When I got them the books, negatives etc were welded into a mass of glug that grew the most incredible collection of mold on and through it.
Guest Glenn Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Glad you worked out imageshack Den. :) Thanks for posting the pic 8)
sixtiesrelic Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 what's better... The other line on that same day. If you look closely you'll see there are two Ansett "3s" behind the last TAA one. Try this one Glenn.
sixtiesrelic Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 What's better.. Five at the Mt Hagen show in 1973. It was a much larger area of tarmac and most were parked on it in front of and behind the one I took the photo from.
