Your Favourite Aussie Airports.

Hello everyone.

 

Thought I'd start this thread as I am interested in knowing what some of your favourite Aussie Airports are? You can base it on any personal point of view whether it's a pilots point of view, passenger point of view or an enthusisit point of view etc. You can mention any type of airport whether it's a major International Airport, a small GA airfield in the middle of nowhere or an airport in a major lesuire town etc, etc. Am interested in your thoughts. For me, I'm basing the following on a plane enthusitists point of view.

 

- I just adore Sydney Airport. It's just so action packed and busy and it has many great spots for plane spotters to view and photograph the action. The beach near Botany Bay is definately the best viewing area I've encountered in Australia. You can get just amazing photos as well as being so close to the planes on taxi. I am a huge Boeing 747 and A340 fan and Sydney just has the lot! For me personally, Sydney Airport is just a paradise. So fun and exciting!

 

- I really love Melbourne Airport. It is kinda in a rural area and the roads that go around the perimeter are very quiet and all you have to really do is just pull up on the side of the road onto a grassy field under one of the RWY flightpaths and just photograph and view them landing and taking off very low and loud! Melbourne is just the perfect airport for aerial photos. Sadly, it is nowhere near as busy as Sydney but I still love spotting in Melbourne.

 

- Despite the fact Cairns Airport has lost so much of its decent international traffic, I still really love Cairns Airport. It is just so scenic with the rainforest capped mountains parallel to the runway. It is a very good airport for viewing and taking photographs and I personally found it to be very spotter friendly. When I was there, I was allowed to go up onto the Port Authorities Tower's roof to get some photos which is such a vantage point. The GA area is great for photos of GA and airliners. I even got airside at the GA to get a pic of a few aircraft. I suppose it was just the luck of the draw but otherwise, Cairns Airport is wonderful.

 

- My home International Airport is of course Brisbane. I have had so much fun at Brisbane Airport and have gotten so many wonderful photos there as well as some very rare movements I would virtually never see. Our offical viewing area near the GA (the Loop Road) has just given me so much pleasure and in my opinion, it is the second best viewing area in Australia. The Airport also has many good spots on the southern end under the RWY01 flightpath which enables good pics and views. Unfortunately, BNE has lost and are about to lose many movements I like (mostly 747s grrrr) and I am now starting to like BNE less. This is probably because I have been there so many times as well as visiting SYD and MEL! But overall, BNE is a great airport and I have had so much fun and pleasure there.

 

So those are the main Aussie airports I have had the most pleasure out of. Sorry if my post seemed too long! lol.
