I was thinking about the price of av gas, somewhere around $1.60 a liter.

 

We are paying a massive amount of tax on this fuel. Once as pilots we would be getting our maps , ERSA and all documents as part of the fuel levy.

 

When Dick Smith introduced the current system we are now obliged to BUY our own. This Dick says will make our sky's safer. :twisted:

 

I would like to know if the government has been or is charging the 3 cents a liter road tax to aviation fuel. If it is what are we, as users getting from it. It would appear that we are getting less but indeed paying more for our sport then when we had the fuel levy. :roll:

 

There was a recent article( I will find it and quote soon) that for a 2 hour cross country flight there is somewhere in the order of greater than 25% of the cost in taxes.

 

Once again what do we get for this other than more politicians ( sorry a bit cynical for first time)

As you are probably aware of, in 1995, the CAA was disbanded and was replaced by two new organizations - Air Services Australia (AA), and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

 

A fuel excise rate was implemented for aviation gasoline of, 16.051 cents per litre is paid to AA while 2.427 cents per litre is paid to CASA. On top of the excise rate, the Goods and Services Tax was introduced in 1999, 10%.

 

Similarly, in the past decade, both Moorabbin and Essendon have increased airport usage fees which with possibly more to come. ?Under the proposal by Airservices Australia - airports with Commonwealth-funded air traffic towers would face a user-pays fee structure determined by the plane weight. ?Essendon Airport general manager Tim Anderson said the proposed changes meant charges at Essendon would be 15 times higher than its competitor Tullamarine?.
