Guest Chainsaw Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Do you prefer the Sound of Round or the sound of jet engines, or are you a rotorhead? Do you have a reason why you voted this way?
Guest Glenn Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 All of the above, but I voted sound of round. Radial's do have that harmonic sound to them. Choppers have that nice beat too, but you can't go past the sound of a Huey, they are the best sounding chopper wise. Jets are ok too, especially when starting up or shutting down.
Uncle Chop Chop Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Ha Ha Ha the Sound of Round is leading and shouldn't be beaten.

Guest Cat on a PC© Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 I prefer the sound of a Parnavia Tornado or a B1-B. I just love it the way my filling melt and resolidify as they scream by . . . :D
Guest David747 Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Ohh, gee, tough one! I am a huge helicopter fanatic and I just love the sound they make when they start up and take off, especially ones powered by turbine or turboshaft engines. In short, I love the sound helicopters make. Glenn, the Iroquoies sound awesome don't they! I love the sound of round, especially on the Caribous, jolly awesome! However, I am not a fan of very many radial powered aeroplanes. Jet engines, for me, all depends on the engine type and what sort of a/c. Rolls Royce engines are my all time favourite as they make an awesome growl, grunt, whine and thunder, you name it, on most a/c when taking off, especially on 747s! Very loud! P&Ws are just as good on the 747 classics and the 767 200s with the really loud growl, grunt, whine thunder, however on the 747 400s, they sound pretty hopeless in comparison in my opinion. I'm not a GE fan whatsoever except they make a pretty good sound on the 744s, but otherwise, they are too quiet for me and don't have much of a growl to them. A 727, 707 and Antonov AN124 just sound awesome. Tis a tough desicon to make but I'll have to vote for jet engines, followed very closely to be a rotorhead. David...
TAA Matt Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 I'll have to vote for jet enginesDavid... \:D/ [smilie=cool0010.gif] [smilie=happy0180.gif] [smilie=happy0065.gif] [smilie=neenerneener.gif] [smilie=party0019.gif] [smilie=partytime.gif] [smilie=emot155.gif]
Guest WillMikoyan Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Voted Sound of Round......... The throaty roar of a Harvard soaring through the sky by far beats any whingy jet engine I've ever heard....... Not that I don't like jets of course, but I prefer the russian jets....Now they sound cool.... But the contra-rotating blades of the Ty-96 or 114 are the best of the lot... Not a big fan of helicopters though, fixed wing for me thanks lol.
Guest WillMikoyan Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Oh and how could I forget the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin or a Gypsy Major inline engine :) :) :)
Guest lonewolf Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 To Quote Stan Schekler "turbines start by whining for a litle while then give a lady like "poof" then whine a little louder, round engines give a satisfying rattle-rattle click-click BANG,more rattles another bang a big macho fart or two then more clicks and rattles , a lot more smoke and finally a low pitched serious roar. We like that, its a guy thing. When you start a rounf engine your mind is engaged for the flight ahead. Starting a turbine is like flicking on a ceiling fan, useful but hardly exciting." My vote goes for the round engines.
Guest wiz310 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Gotta be round. I prefer to fly the turbines, but round for sound is the go. You just can't beat the sound of a DC3 or even a drom at takeoff power and then a low pass with a thrush is a sound all on its own. :D
