acebritpilot
Friends, How much pain and anguish (and perhaps money) is involved in converting US ratings to Australian nearest equivalents? In particular just private pilot, SE/L instrument would do for starters. Any advice and/or pointers to on-line information would be much appreciated! Tim. Guest Glenn
A quick search on Google uncovered the following Full Licence ConversionIf you want to fly in Australia for more than three months, then a Full Licence Conversion is required. Australian Pilot Licences are issued without an expiry date, but are conditional on the holder having a current Australian Class 2 (Private Pilot Licence) or Class 1 (Commercial Pilot Licence and Airline Transport Pilot Licence) Medical Certificate. Generally, the following easy steps need to be completed, to convert to a full Australian Pilot Licence: 1. You must complete and pass a medical examination with a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner in Australia. Alternatively, there are a number of doctors overseas who are approved by CASA to conduct these examinations. Click here to view the list of approved overseas practitioners. 2. You must pass the Australian Air Law written examination appropriate to the licence that you are seeking. 3. You must satisfy the practical aeronautical experience requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for the licence sought. This is generally the same as the ICAO recommendations. 4. You must pass an Australian Flight Test for the licence you are seeking. Moorabbin Flying Services can assist in all areas of these simple requirements. We are able to conduct you through all of the required steps with our in house training, testing and examination approvals. We are a one stop shop for all the overseas licence and training needs. acebritpilot
Glenn, Great- many thanks, it doesn't seem to onerous. I assume the medicals are roughly similar to USA (I've a current US Class 2; the Japanese Class 2 is quite different and much more involved...). I'll certainly be looking to convert once settled (and fortunately this will be close to Moorabbin). Cheers, Tim.
