Ladies/Gentlemen;

I am seeking information on the use of SMS in Australian aviation and if you find it a success.

We are engaged in a battle here in Canada as Transport Canada is trying to force the use of the system which in theory is great but they are trying to use it as a form of self-regulation allowing them to use less oversight, that is less inspections/inspectors. Our main complaint is that we agree with the system but only with continued, if not increased oversight.

We view the self-regulation aspect as another tool for the shoddy operators to continue getting away with poor maintenance, over loaded aircraft and pressure on crews to perform against their interpretation of legal limits.

I would be happy to hear from your experience in Australia.

Regards
