Guest g_i_jack029
Check out this huge Ekranoplane, i think it's real, apparently built in 1987 as a missile launcher from the former Soviet Union, it weighs 400 ton!!! looks like a flying brick with some cannons (missile launchers) on the top anyway, here's the link http://www.samolet.co.uk/jpegs/lun_1.jpg

Guest richmondtroy
If you watch the dvd "extreme machines: Superplanes" then you will see this monster featured in that.
Tim E
Yes weird looking plane..wonder if they made a big batch of them or just a few or even if this one was a prototype?..guess it was to complenment their submarine fleet and that missile capability..very much a Cold War feel about it in a way..those were the times we lived in I guess. Hi Chainsaw! Perhaps it could be converted into a ride on mower?LOL..would have to do straight strips on the road verge though..cant imagine trying to turn it round the fruit trees! Do you have any more pics Jack..that was a good one..have never seen that plane before.
Tim E
Definitely not a prototype then..they must have built a few. ..thanks for that info richmondtroy. wonder would dvd be available locally?
Guest richmondtroy
We have the dvd in my store (video store) for rent. Just watching it now :P There was only one ever built and is currently sitting in dry dock somewhere in Russia. It holds the world record for the most lift of any aircraft at over 1000 tonnes. It can travel at over 300mph Can carry over 1000 soviet marines And is larger than a 747.
