Great thread guys :)

I use a humble:

Brand: Panasonic

Model: DMC-FZ30

Lens: 35-420mm Leica

accessories: Akubra Hat

Mode: Program, but try to use as much depth of field as possible. I just use jpg's for the output.

The camera is very versatile but has a degree of noise or grain. The quality on macro shots is not in the same league as a DSLR with a good lens. Plane shots don't usually require a macro shot thankfully! It's light and doesn't have dust problems on the inside. I bought it not just for planes, but as an all rounder. I'm most happy with it.

I believe it is better to capture the moment rather than fuss with lots of settings (I still do that sometimes when the mood takes me). I do try with composition of each shot though. I try to visualise how it will end up, then I take the shot with that in mind.

Previously, I had a Pentax KM which I bought new in 1975. Great great camera.

I use the Canon EOS 350D

EFS 18-55 mm lens

EF 75-300mm lens

2 spare Power Mart DCN003Z batteries

SanDisk Extreme III 1GB

Lexar Media 1GB

PQ1 2GB

First Champion 8GB

Sony DCR-SR42 HDD Handycam

2 FH70 Batteries(Unbranded but work very well)

I have brought the spare batteries from e-batteries.com.au at a fraction of the price of the Canon/Sony ones. I have had no problems with the batteries and the service from e-batteries is very good.

All the CF cards have been problem free also.

The missus uses the video camera at shows and occasionally at the airport and is now very happy that we have the battery capacity to use the camera most of the day.

Mostly use the DSLR on auto as I don't want to miss "that" shot.

I did have some problems with the 75-300mm lens but at the 2nd attempt Canon found the fault and repaired it under warranty via Harvey Norman Mildura. Very frustrating though to be without the camera for 2 two week spells especially as the last time was when the comet was visible 2 years ago. By the time the camera was fixex the comet was just a dot!

My first digital camera was a Kodak Easyshare C340 5.0 Megapixal 3x optical zoom then that was followed by a Olympus FE-240 7.1 Megapixel 5 x optical zoom which I still use on the odd occasion because it slips into the shirt pocket & then on I mainly use is a Nikon Coolpix P80 10.1 megapixel 18x wide angleoptical zoom which I mainly use on Auto but have on the odd occasion tried a couple of the other settings.I normally like to just aim at the subject and take the photo

I am not much for still photography but with my video production hobby and interests expanding by day I decided to buy something decent and I now own the

Sony HDW650F HD Camera.

It is well worth its PRICE, the hard part is trying to work it !!!!
