Guest Glenn
Think about it, The world has been opened up so much with thanks to the invention of the aeroplane (helicopters included) We would be sailing across the oceans in gigantic cruise ships, probably larger than what we have now. There would be no TAA, maybe TAS (The Aussie Sailor) What do you think life would be like today with no aircraft?

Guest OzChris
Good topic Glenn... Life would not be as fulfilling to me. A huge part of my life over the last 20 years has been flying - before that it was dreaming of flying... So I guess flight would be a constant dream - not the type of dream that we can aspire to, but rather the empty dream of longing. I for one am very happy I live in a time where flying is readily available to the average person...I love the fact that I can go down to the local airfield, hire a plane and fly pretty much where ever I want to go...and on a modest salary! Thanks to RAAus Flying =D>
Guest g_i_jack029
What do you think life would be like today with no aircraft? To put it simply.......CR@P!....well then i'd have a different passion, from my point of view TODAY i'd stick with my first answer. if i grew up without aviation i think i'd be one of those kids in Year 12 not knowing what 2 do for my career The Aussie Sailor?! Everyone has their passion and mine isn't sailing, people who sail have a different strain of disease. sailing looks like fun, i should give it a go some day! anyway, some of these diseases CAN BE CURED mine just happens to be Aviation, Flying. Aviation has a different strain of the Disease, fortunately this CANNOT be cured!!!
Tim E
Hmmm..not being able to go out through the paddocks and watch those great things in the sky with their vapour trails....I'd feel strangley disconnected.

Tim E
Would miss the vapour trails at night when a big full moon is out like last night too..something special. :) Just think Chainsaw..you wouldn't be able to watch those magnificent craft whilst mowing down that long grass on that ride on mower...if only you could get plane plotter installed on the dash..now thats an idea..might think about it for mine too..just got a new ride on toy here. Enjoy the spotting today.Blue sky (and white frost) up here in North East Victoria. :D
Guest Chainsaw
Yea, PP on the ride-on....nice idea. What about on the inside of one's eyelids? :P Small frost here, broken cloud.
Tim E
LOL! Just think Chainy..we could start a thread on "The Ulimate Planespotters Ride On Mower." Getting back to the topic..what I'd miss? Well the airport atmosphere, the sound and feel of reverse thrust..the sound and feel as the plane trundles along the runway on take off..wtching the different things going on in the wings...Methinks its time I got on a plane again! I've already got a plan in motion for that. :D

Tim E
Yep..sur do..cant wait for this trip to happen..hoping it will be soon.if all goes according to plan i will be off in 5 weeks..if not 12 months down the track..but it will happen..I can feel it in my bones. Travel agent was concerned and apologetic with all the flights....in the USA I have to catch two flights every time to get from A to B..and that happens 4 times..with a stopover on the way home it actually means 12 take offs and landings within two weeks! Told travel agent not to worry!LOL.Who is complaining..not me!! :D
Guest Glenn
If there were no aircraft and you had to go by boat, would you still be going? and think of how long the trip would take you. PlanePlotter? What about boat plotter? Jack, if there were no planes then how would you know if you were missing out on something? You would surely have an interest in something else. I'm talking about what if aircraft were not invented, no one knew how to invent a flying machine. Hard to imagine in this life but perhaps a possibility. Guest OzChris
Jack, if there were no planes then how would you know if you were missing out on something? Because flying is in your blood, your very soul even...thats what drove people to invent them - it was such a strong drive for so many people. Most failed in their life time of course, but finally it became invented. But in reality, man did not invent flying - it was when he turned to nature and copied the birds that he truly was able to *mimic* natural flight... If there were no aircraft invented in my life time - Id be sure as heck trying hard to invent *something* that would get me off the ground - even if only for seconds, it would be worth a life times effort! Tim E
Yes Glenn..Its a trip I would do anyway.before I die...one of those things you have to do for your soul...by ship if not planes..but with commitments I couldn't do it now by ship with the time it would take.. Would love the ship too..but the plane would be extra special. And all those extra flights I get for free! Yay! e.g. To get from New Haven ,Conneticut to Akron Ohio, I fly via Phialdelphia..yet its all for the one price..no extra for the extra plane trip. I reckon I'm lucky. Yes Ozchris...the inner reward for creating/ inventing something..we all have a creative side and we need to find it and express it somehow. I loved my music but cant play an instrument at all..so I turned to organising musical events and found my creatrivity there..a great experience. Not having a scientific bone in my body I just marvel at the physics of the whole thing and how it works, and at how mankind has been able to do what it has done aviation wise..in the design, construction, maintenance and actual flying etc. So many different people all contributing. I marvel at how some pilots have come up with answers and saved flights in emergency situations..and how engineers solve puzzles when planes crash or break down. Mankind has so much intelligence...would be great if it were all harnessed in a positive direction for sake of mankind...and it can be with awill to do that... :)

If we could all work our creative and intelligent minds to working *FOR* mankind's better interests, instead of self indulgent individualistic greed, we would be all the better for it (as would our precious environment). I do think that in a way aircraft came so far so quickly *because* of working together for a greater good...and of course that was for defending ones country and people during time of war. The aircraft developed because people worked *together* Imagine what we could achieve as a human race if we endeavored to do that with every human need - poverty, pollution, war, etc just might be combated! Or at least a workable solution might be found...

Nick
Without planes our letters would take months to get somewhere over sea's instead of days. If planes had not been invented and we were travelling everywhere by boat we would have some good look cruise ships lol. I can see this topic going on for a long time :? Guest Glenn
Remember when you were a kid and you dreamed you could fly like a bird? Perhaps you made wings and jumped from the shed roof in a vain attempt to soar like an eagle. I remember dreaming that I could run and leap into the air and fly along parallel to the ground for a few feet. I tried it once for real without much success But I didn't just from the shed roof. I can't remember if it's because I have seen airacraft fly before that I wanted to fly myself or if it was because I watched birds doing it. What if there were no aircraft, would I and many millions of kids like me try and fly like I discussed above? Moving freight and cargo would mean more traffic on our roads and more trains on our tracks increasing the risk of accidents and increasing the cost of goods we use everyday. If it wasn't for aviation today, our world would be a very different place
