djpacro Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Avalon has messed up our flying calendar for too long now so I'd be grateful if it was held at least 1000 miles away.
DC449 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Would'nt there be to many houses around there???
dougal_s Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 There is an airshow at Point Cook airbase (I think it is called something else? But it is where the RAAF museum is) that is in the years that the Avalon airshow isn't.
dougal_s Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Air Pagaent??That was last year Yep, but there sgould be another one next year. But if they shifted the Avalon one to there, then there would be one each year...not a bad thing, perhaps unless you live there
Guest Mike_S Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I have heard rumors close to the organizing committee is that this will be the last Airshow at Avalon. Aren't they contracted to the Vic Govt or something like that? So if was to be moved i think it has to stay in Vic, and i can't really think of any other aerodrome in the state that can handle an event of that size.
Guest Darren Masters Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Jetstar has the airshow up on their website.
Guest DanH Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 i can't really think of any other aerodrome in the state that can handle an event of that size. East Sale maybe?
Robbo Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 who said it was going to re-locate? It will most likelly shut down for good. On another note, I will only be at the airshow on Wednesday will be in Geelong Tuesday arvo until Thursday morning but won't be at the airshow until Wednesday. Anyone in the area wanna catch up for a beer just drop me a line :)
Robbo Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 for all those people going to the airshow, why not enter the vline ticket comp :) http://www.vline.com.au/discovervictoria/discover/competition/avalon.html?&sid=30 Prize is drawn at 10am tommorow so better enter tonight :)
dougal_s Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 It seems a Qantas A380 will be on display but only until midday Saturday, whereas the new Virgin 777 will be on Sunday. Then a Qantas 747-400 will be on display all day Sunday. http://www.airshow.net.au/avalon2009/PDFs/AS2009-QantasA380-and-Virgin777-020309.pdf
Robbo Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 I have a list of aircraft attending a mate sent me through (he is a volunteer) and based on that list I have decided I won't even bother going. I will be away on work anyway now as I changed rosters :)
Robbo Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 I will scan it and post it when I get a chance flat stick at the moment
dougal_s Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I will scan it and post it when I get a chance flat stick at the moment If you could that would be great. Personally I'm quite looking forward to this as there will be a lot of aircraft that I haven't seen before (even if the attendence is not that great compared to previous years), or for a very long time.
dougal_s Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Specifically I'd really like to know what will be there in relation to jet warbirds e.g. Meteor, Canberra.
Guest Capt Rex Kramer Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Why the reluctance to post the list here Dear sir?
Robbo Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 I am flat stick busy... I said I will when I get a chance !!! Could be a few days as I left it at work and im off for a few days.
Guest Capt Rex Kramer Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Most kind of you sir!! i am sure that list is of most interest to many members here and as you have pointed out a most dissapointing one at that, your kind actions may well save potential visitors to the show a lot of money in these tough economic times by taking the guess work out of whats appearing, (whether or not is it really worth the time and money ).
Robbo Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 I won't be at work until early next week. But I will try and ring the boys in the morning and get them to fax it to me.
dougal_s Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Some info at: http://www.defpro.com/news/details/5914/. Quote; Boeing's presence at the show will include the static display and aerial demonstration of Australia's newest fighter aircraft -- the F/A-18F Super Hornet -- plus the C-17 Globemaster III military transport, CH-47 Chinook medium-lift helicopter, ScanEagle Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, and Wedgetail AEW&C aircraft. The Boeing exhibit also will feature the Vigilare air battle management system, a P-8 mission demonstrator console, and an F/A-18 simulator. End Quote I'd like a turn on the FA18 simulator - I spent many an hour on Janes F/A-18 pretending to be a real fighter pilot!
Guest DanH Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Bit of info here about Russian Pilot Nikolay Timofeev coming down for the show http://www.airshow.net.au/avalon2009/PDFs/AS2009-media-release-march09.pdf
