Fellow Nerds,

I have been thinking of getting a desktop scanner and a discone antenna, however as I am hardly home it would not get much use so I am now looking at a basic handheld scanner. Just wondering the peoples views on the below handhelds. The second one has a charger and batterys.

I was also thinking of this but there is real no need to have digital so its not worth it.

Robbo

If you are looking to buy , check out www.prestigecom.com.au . They seem very competitive , as an example the Uniden UBC72XLT is advertised at $159 , and the same model is $199 at DSE . I am thinking of getting one myself , the "close call " facility is a definite draw card I think ..

And from another nerd Robbo as I said to you, if you just want to feed atc or ACARS the $45 option of a 'Scantenna' from DSE is fine. On the subject of a discone, yes they do work well especially if you want to decode weather signals but if using it for running a live feed the Scantenna will be just as good. The 120XLT handheld will work well too just for that. Probably pick one up off E-Bay cheap. I am using the 120XLT to run my YSSY feed right now.

See Robbo, another member has one too. They are fine for what you want to do mate. How did you go with Media Encoder? Sometimes you need to open a port. Let me know.

Scantenna wont work where I am setting it up im over 200k from melb and hills galore, I remember the discone working fine before i sold it.

As for media encoder still can't get it going, I paid for a stream host, so I don't need to open a port because people don't connect to my computer they go to the other server (http://www.spacialnet.com)
